March 2010

I have to say that Diane Kruger’s dress was probably my least favorite (on par with Charlize Theron) on the Oscars 2010 red carpet. The Inglorious Basterds star was decked head to toe in creamy Chanel, with layers of embroidered chiffon separated by ribbons of black lace. I did love the halter-style neck but the entire dress made her look like a 1920’s flap dress/swan of some kind and I wasn’t feeling that the vintage vibe was really going for her. Tonight, a la the Black Eyed Peas, is gonna be a good night. But the makeup trends create the faces that “launch a thousand movie tickets.” Here are what the celebrity makeup artists are saying about trends and looks for the Oscar 2010 Beauty trends tonight. Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side Oscar 2010 Beauty Trend Prediction #1: Classic Beauty and Old Hollywood Style Glamour Celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine says, “I think the most popular/prominent look on the red carpet this year will be classic beauty statements. If we see color, it will be blush tones and soft roses instead of deep shades of red or vibrant shadow statements. I think this beauty speaks directly to the recession and reflects a more subtle beauty that many women can relate to.” Anna Hendricks at SAG Awards 2010 Anna Hendricks at the 2010 SAG Awards
The weather here in NYC has been a little schizophrenic over the past few weeks. If it’s not snowing, then it’s raining and if it’s not raining then it’s windy enough to knock you off your feet. So what’s a girl to do? Well, that’s where Living Proof comes in. This line of “No Frizz” creams, sprays, shampoos and conditioners is a dream come true for any bad hair day. The company prides itself on the use of advanced technologies to solve the toughest hair woes. Made up of a team of leading scientists and beauty authorities, Living Proof’s goal is to “invent efficient formulas with new molecules that deliver results you can see across the room.” Living Proof Full Thickening Cream

The Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Organization needs no introduction, as I'm sure you all are aware of how prestigious the honors for the finalists and award winners are. Here you can find the complete list of categories and entrants for the 2010 Awards. CEW Beauty Awards 2010 I attended the CEW 2010 Awards Demo the other night and was treated to endless tables of beauty products. Most were familar to me over the course of my beauty education over the year (note, the products had to be released during the calendar year 2009 to be eligible), but there were some products that surprised me -- in a great way. We had the opportunity to hear Susan Bornstein talk about what makes CEW a truly unique organization, and in her words "the beauty categories and products that were entered actually rose over the past year instead of decreasing." And can you believe it, the number of indie brand entrants practically doubled? This means that the small business owner, especially in the highly-competitive beauty business, is getting more clout. Amen to that! There were some really exuberant displays of affection in the whole design of the Demo Awards, from cozy fireplaces to platters of chocolates and truffles handed out to guests, to Clarisonic facials and two gorgeous, buff men handing out red roses to ladies (sponsored by Veet). Veet at CEW Awards 2010 There were also some products that were blinged out just for the occasion. Take a look at Garnier Fructis Anti Humidity Hairspray cans covered in Swarovski crystals (just model cans, of course. We wish we could buy these at the drugstore). Garnier Fructis Bling at the CEW 2010 Awards   Now, onto the award categories themselves. There are so many product categories and subdivisions (the Facial Skincare section alone has 9 subsections including Acne Treatment and Eye Treatment Mass and Eye Treatment Prestige). After testing, trying, questioning, sniffing and applying makeup like veritable Miss America contestants (for two hours, nonetheless!), we still felt we had not done all the entrants justice. As you may know, these nominees need VOTES to be able to enter the FINALS (yup, it's just like American Idol). This year, more than 550 products were entered by nearly 300 beauty brands, and 155 finalists will be chosen will be chosen from 31 categories.

Since the weekly rags like the Nat Enquirer, US Weekly and its glossy couterparts (e.g.Life & Style) have been taking the newsstands by storm, it’s not a surprise that MAC Cosmetics decided to take part in this Gossip fetish that’s becoming more Americana than apple pie. The...
