(Review, Before/After Photos) Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Haircare Collection

Carol’s Daughter seriously knows how to treat a lady: from the Almond Cookie Shea Souffle to now, the Chocolat Smoothing Haircare collection, the line gives us so many comfort foods and smells in an addicting, understated, non overpowering way.

Recently, I attended the launch of the Chocolat Smoothing Haircare collection at a New York City Godiva store. I was in chocolate sensory overload: from the gold-foil packaged bars, to the Truffle Gift Sets to what they were serving (Vodka infused with Godiva liqueur), it was as though this store was Willy Wonka Gone Wild.

The unveil of the Chocolat Smoothing Haircare collection was apropos in this store; a few bloggers raved about how “touchable” their hair became after they used the Smoothing Shampoo, Smoothing Conditioner, and Blow Dry Cream, and after looking at a few of their strands, I had to resist the urge to run up to them and run my fingers through their hair.

The Chocolat Smoothing Collection is a three-step sulfate free collection that was designed to rebuild the hair structure and smooth each strand like a wand made out of cocoa butter. Most smoothing systems use one tactic –to coat hair with moisture to create the appearance of smooth hair. Carol’s Daughter, as always inspired by nature, decided to tap into ingredients that soften and smooth the cuticle layers from the outside, and uses Keravis, a hyperactive plant protein that builds hair by filling in the lifted cuticles.

The Chocolat Smoothing Shampoo is a thick, creamy sulfate-free shampoo formulated with Amenolado Cacao from Ecuador and West Africa. It has coconut-derived cleaners, and also has vegetable-derived protein to strengthen the strands. For $18, it may be a bit more expensive than your average shampoo, but as I used this I was glad to find zero harsh fragrances (typically associated with non-natural technology) and that my hair felt a natural clean after I was done.

The Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner is another creamy number, with cacoa extract that smoothes and vegetable protein rebuilds with Sunflower Seed Oil creating the high shine. This is the product that gives the hair a sleek finish. For $20, again a little more pricey than other brands but in my books, and after my hair felt, it’s worth it. A little goes a long way. It’s thick.

The Chocolat Smoothing Blow Dry Cream seals the deal and enhances shine in your hair with soy protein. This retails for $24.

In case you were wondering how my hair did, take a look. The product trio is available at Carol’s Daughter Stores and online, and at Macy’s, Dillard’s and Regis Salons now.
