The Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Organization needs no introduction, as I'm sure you all are aware of how prestigious the honors for the finalists and award winners are. Here you can find the complete list of categories and entrants for the 2010 Awards. CEW Beauty Awards 2010 I attended the CEW 2010 Awards Demo the other night and was treated to endless tables of beauty products. Most were familar to me over the course of my beauty education over the year (note, the products had to be released during the calendar year 2009 to be eligible), but there were some products that surprised me -- in a great way. We had the opportunity to hear Susan Bornstein talk about what makes CEW a truly unique organization, and in her words "the beauty categories and products that were entered actually rose over the past year instead of decreasing." And can you believe it, the number of indie brand entrants practically doubled? This means that the small business owner, especially in the highly-competitive beauty business, is getting more clout. Amen to that! There were some really exuberant displays of affection in the whole design of the Demo Awards, from cozy fireplaces to platters of chocolates and truffles handed out to guests, to Clarisonic facials and two gorgeous, buff men handing out red roses to ladies (sponsored by Veet). Veet at CEW Awards 2010 There were also some products that were blinged out just for the occasion. Take a look at Garnier Fructis Anti Humidity Hairspray cans covered in Swarovski crystals (just model cans, of course. We wish we could buy these at the drugstore). Garnier Fructis Bling at the CEW 2010 Awards   Now, onto the award categories themselves. There are so many product categories and subdivisions (the Facial Skincare section alone has 9 subsections including Acne Treatment and Eye Treatment Mass and Eye Treatment Prestige). After testing, trying, questioning, sniffing and applying makeup like veritable Miss America contestants (for two hours, nonetheless!), we still felt we had not done all the entrants justice. As you may know, these nominees need VOTES to be able to enter the FINALS (yup, it's just like American Idol). This year, more than 550 products were entered by nearly 300 beauty brands, and 155 finalists will be chosen will be chosen from 31 categories.

Since the weekly rags like the Nat Enquirer, US Weekly and its glossy couterparts (e.g.Life & Style) have been taking the newsstands by storm, it’s not a surprise that MAC Cosmetics decided to take part in this Gossip fetish that’s becoming more Americana than apple pie. The...

I must confess that when I first saw this jar, I thought the manufacturers at Clarins had made a mistake. The frothy, whipped, dolloped-like mousse was WHITE. Who knew what put this in my mind, but I had a preconception that all self-tanning mousses, creams, liquids and potions had to have that earthy, bronzy color? Clarins Self Tanning Mousse Clarins Self Tanning Mousse This white mousse has a creamy dessert, Banana Pie-like texture and gives you a beautiful tan without you ever looking like you went to a streak show. The fragrance is divine (fruity with a touch of almond), and it’s married to an oil called Mirabelle Oil (this comes from a small golden fruit that’s fatty-acid rich). Plus it has SPF 15. The ladies at the Clarins Skin Spa last evening showed us how to properly apply the Mousse: 1. You must exfoliate first, especially on the day you apply the mousse, taking care to remove the exfoliant with mitts or a wash cloth. Clarins Skin Spa Exfoliate Clarins Skin Spa Exfoliate 2. Then apply a moisturizing cream to hydrate and prep, taking care to pay special attention to your ankles and knees (you don’t want your knees to look extra “earthy” do you? Moisturizing those areas will help the color go evenly all over).
Alice in Wonderland Organix Shampoo With its talking rabbits, mystical creatures, and fire-breathing dragons, Disney's Alice in Wonderland truly transports you into a fairytale state of mind. The film was directed by Tim Burton, a true visual artist, who is known most famously for his films Edward Scissorhands, Beetle Juice and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. All of his movies feature stunning graphics and effects that are unlike any other. Alice in Wonderland sparks Burton's seventh movie collaboration with actor Johnny Depp, who is amazing as The Mad Hatter in this film. But when is Johnny Depp not amazing? Full of vividly bright colors and wildly fantastic scenery, Alice in Wonderland will have you wondering if you've fallen down that rabbit hole. Organix Alice in Wonderland Inspired Cherry Blossom Ginseng In keeping with the imaginative theme of the movie, Organix has created the Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng Shampoo and a complementing Conditioner. Organix, the fast growing hair care brand, is known for their innovative ingredients and sensual flavors. This shampoo and conditioner duo is a blend of cherry blossom extracts, Asian ginseng root, rice milk and bamboo extracts that promise to add volume to the roots while adding hydration and shine. I ran home to test out the products after I saw the movie and I am loving the results. And an added bonus: my hair smells incredible! The hair styling in the movie featured loose, flowing curls full of shine and body which was a perfect compliment to the ethereal feel of this film.

It looks like the shimmer and glimmer trend is extending well into the warmer months of the year — on your nails, that is. Zoya Nail Polish’s new Flash and Sparkle Collection for Summer 2010 is all about creamy summer colors as well as radiance...

Widely popular as an upstart cosmetics line in the UK, Illamasqua recently made its debut in the states to much anticipation of its devoted fans. Now carried at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com, Illamasqua is guaranteed to add to their already large cult following. The line is uniquely different and inspired by the "dark and dramatic 1920s Berlin club scene". One look at the website and you will feel transported to another era. With its intense eye shadow pigments, theatre style false lashes and rich lip colors, the looks are bold and beautifully dramatic. At Illamasqua.com, you'll find clear and in depth makeup tutorials from the artists behind the brand. The collections, including Noir, Fantasy and Porcelain Doll have an amazing theatrical quality. Browse the videos and see step-by-step how to achieve these looks or simply learn how to do basic makeup applications like applying false lashes or creating the perfect red lip. Illamasqua Porcelain Doll The Porcelain Doll Collection features intense and accentuated eyes and lips. And don't forget those va-va-voom lashes! Apply the smooth Matt Foundation Primer to prep for an amazingly flawless foundation and conceal dark circles with the Under Eye Concealer (two of their bestsellers!). One of the key products used is the Pure Pigment powder in Furore, a peach champagne color that can be used not only for the eyes, but as a highlighter for cheeks and brows. Pure Pigment can be combined with blush and eyeshadow or worn on its own to accent and highlight. To achieve that perfect pout, apply lipstick in Corrupt. The color-rich lipstick is creamy and goes on so smooth it lasts well into the day and night. For added drama, complete the look with a layer of lipgloss in Tantrum. This deep violet shade adds just the right amount of sheen to your lips. You can also wear it alone for a sheer glossy look.
