It is hot, folks! We may as well be in a swamp zone in Florida, and our makeup is migrating down to our knees. Watching our makeup, blush and eyeshadow vanish into an oil slick by noon isn't our idea of fun in the sun. So...

Some soaps get you downright squeaky clean, as though you were dirty as a pig in mud before. When you lather up they make you want to scrub away for hours and forget about wasting water or the neighborhood drought. But few soaps can double as...

I'm not the only person who loves bright skin. Hailing from India, where they use coconut milk to religiously whiten their face, I learned from kindergarten that having flawless white skin was the most beautiful thing you could have apart from possessing polished, uninterrupted nails. So when I came to the United States and saw everyone frying their faces out on Jones Beach to get brown, I thought they were off their rocker. I wrote dozens of letters to my mom (not too e-mail savvy back then): Do you know what these people are doing? I can't believe you put me through that coconut milk regimen each day... So, in the spirit of writing about all things white, I stumbled upon my latest love, skyn Iceland's Arctic Brightening Serum.

Okay I shouldn't give political advice on a beauty site I know but that was too easy to resist. On sale on Monday is Stila's new Rock the Vote Red Lip Color to inspire women to vote. The lippie can purchased for $17 at www.stilacosmetics.com. 25% of...

There are better ways to protect your skin than wearing long-sleeved tees and full-length skirts like the Amish during the summer. When temperatures rise so high that even your slurpee starts to boil before you can drink it, it's time to jump into a pool of sunscreen. No one makes a better organic spray than Dr. Hauschka (even his name sounds all erudite, as though he received a PhD at birth and started doing R&D before he got to grade school). His new organic SPF 15 Sunscreen Spray is my current object d'amour. It's made with ice plant, rose hip and quince seed extracts to nurture sensitive skin, and natural mineral titanium dioxide to protect you from the UVA and UVB rays.
Every summer we offer up our winter-white legs to "new and improved" self-tanning lotions, only to be sucker-punched by orange blotches that wouldn't look out of place on a giraffe.  Frankly, we're tired of products that promise us the moon and end up giving us a chunk of an asteroid. So we are thrilled to find a fabulous faux fix for our solar-shy extremities called Tarte Glam Gams Leg Bronzing Stick. This push-up natural gardenia-scented stick is the real deal, giving legs a glowing, toned and taut appearance. The easy-to-apply bronzer is loaded with tarte's 5 super-fruit complex (acai, goji berry, pomegranate, acerola and maracuja) to protect, restore and refine the skin. It's also preservative-, paraben-, phthalate-, sulfate-, propylene glycol-, and mineral oil-free. Whew. Bottom line? Your gams will be pencil skirt-ready.
There are smells -- as I'm sure Pig Pen from the Peanuts Comic Strip would agree -- that you are unlikely to forget. Most smells make you want to block your nose completely and wish you had a cold. No amount of spritzing yourself with good ol' fashioned Charlie or even a Glade house scent will keep your immediate air smelling pretty, because when Pig Pen hits you, he hits you hard. You feel as though your nostrils have been assaulted by some sort of olfactory hippopotamus. You feel violated, vulnerable as Alice in Wonderland and depressed at the thought of these beauty sinners who feel that strutting outside the house without even so much as deodorant or a clean shirt is allowable in sweaty weather. So the debut of Estee Lauder's Sensuous was welcomed with particularly grateful open arms this summer.
Have you walked away from a spa experience and thought, "Darn, I way overpaid for that treatment"? Well, I have, and the thought of missed opportunities to buy extra shoes sent me into a depressive tailspin. My shrink, of course, had a glorious week following my lost $ and kept encouraging me to come back for more sessions, thereby fuelling more tailspin. I exaggerate, of course, but you can see what a poor treatment or purchase can do to your fragile state of mind. Unless you experience a spa treatment that is as exceptional as an Armani Privé gown or vintage champagne, chances are you'll wish you spent your money elsewhere. Well, Sphatika may be one of your best karmic bets. It is a day spa nestled in a buzzing block near Columbus Circle in New York, and the treatments use only pristine, chemical-free natural products and oils.
That bald spot. The thinning hair. The lonely grey strands that make Indira Ghandi's hairdo look like a Ken Paves special. Yes, the horror of owning terrible hair is almost as bad as Jen Aniston's breakup. So you wash and wash those strands, hoping that some tap water and scrambled eggs and mayo on your hair will really do what the magazines say they would. (I tried this once and had to call maid service). Or you go to that salon around the corner hoping that a good hair dye will give your tresses the shade you were meant to be: the exact color of L'Oreal Preference Shade Intense Red RR-06. Or, you can follow the advice of hair care guru Philip Kingsley. Kingsley has been tapped by celebrities and royalty for years and is the author of two books: The Hair Bible: A Complete Guide to Health & Care, and Happy Hair Days: 50 Tips for Healthy Hair. Some of his strongest advocates have included Audrey Hepburn and Candice Bergen.

Let's face it: the word "limited-edition" has gripped the beauty world with its "you-can't-catch-me" aura. I casually toss out the phrase "I'm wearing the Chanel limited edition Black Satin nail polish" at brunch and immediately bulging eyes like those of Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura...
