UPDATE: Check out our review of the best new epilator here > Braun SkinSpa Epilation & Sonic Exfoliation System.

With summer here that means shedding those extra layers and revealing smooth, hairless skin (that’s the plan at least). I don’t know about you, ladies, but I am fed up with shaving! (See our expert leg-shaving tips –>> HERE!) Mind you, I have the trifecta of troublesome leg hair: dark, coarse hair and sensitive skin (I guess I’ll just have to thank my dark European roots for that one!). You can imagine the razor burn I deal with, especially on the upper/inner thighs — and the fact that my leg hair grows at all different angles! That’s why I was excited to finally try Epilady Legend 4th Generation ($69.95) 25th Anniversary edition rechargeable epilator with Nano Silver Antibacterial Technology.

This was the first time I had ever tried a hair remover other than an at-home wax, depilatory cream or shaver. The Epilady Legend comes with a 7-ft adapter/power cord, storage pouch, cleaning brush, and three caps; one cap is meant to be used for your first few applications called the Perfect Angle Guide (PAG), keeping your epilator at the perfect angle for extracting the hair right from the root. Once you get the hang of it, then you can put on the other cap, but the angled cap really is helpful.

After charging the epilator for 8 hours (as suggested for a 45-60 minute session) I got to work on my legs — but it can also be used on your underarms, arms and face. It is important to have dry, clean legs and to keep on pulling the skin taught! Now, this process is extremely tedious — you might have to plug the epilator back into the cord since it will take a while to get rid of all the hair depending on your hair type. This isn’t something you can do the day of an event that requires touchable legs, fast. You might even have to space out your sessions: upper legs one day, lower legs another.

Since the device is pulling the hair right from the root, some redness will occur, but will easily fade once cream is applied thirty minutes after; it took a day for the redness to pass (for me at least). There are two speeds to the epilator, and after holding the device straight up, with the PAG cap on, I made small, circular motions. You might feel compelled to start actually shaving in upward strokes, but keep in mind to not apply pressure as you graze your leg hairs. Now, is this process actually painful? Not really. You do feel those pinching tweezers — 32,000 tweezers per minute to be exact — working hard to remove your leg hair. It’s a small price to pay to actually have smooth legs without seeing any noticeable stubble within a few hours.

Because I love BeautyStat so much, and as your editor you loyal readers deserve nothing but the truth, I have provided a TMS (Too Much Stubble) before photo to share. BUT, the after photos will be so worth it, I swear! DISCLAIMER: STUBBLE AHEAD!!!

Yikes! Now THAT is the proper hair length to be epilating your leg hair (and in my case, that was only about 5 days of not shaving or anything *blushing*).

After Regular Shaving (Next Day!)

The after photos are really something else. That is a close-up of my leg from the ankle to mid-calf. You can see the holes where the hair follicle would be — no black stubble! Smooth as silk, baby! I also took an after photo of my other leg, which I decided to shave as I usually would to compare how fast my hair grows the next day. Already unsightly stubble emerges to mock me! Three days after epilating I could still see no stubble coming to the surface. Maybe a stray hair or two I didn’t catch, but really nothing to worry about. I’m so impressed by the results.

Epilady says that with continued use the hair becomes finer with results lasting up to 4-6 weeks. In my case, this epilator really does work. If you have finer, lighter hair, then you will probably have less time dedicated to really extracting all of those hairs. Overall, a great item to try this summer. All you have to lose is your leg hair. Available on the Epilady website at www.EpiladyUSA.com. Plus, check out our round-up of the best leg shaving tips–>> HERE!

I’ve done a number on my legs in the past with regular razors. I now use the same blade for a long time because the blade is duller. I don’t get as close of a shave, but at least I don’t cut myself anymore.

I hate getting ingrown hairs. No matter how much I exfoliate, I always get ingrown hairs. It gets extremely irritating.

I definitely don’t love shaving my legs so I would love to win this so I can go more days in between having to shave. Thankfully, I’ve not done too much damage in using a razor, but I’ve had my fair share of nicks that hurt like the dickens!
