06 Mar (Review): Secret Deodorant New Natural Mineral Collection
Some of you may know that I’m a total green junkie. I love everything that is natural and environmentally friendly: sunlight, bamboo flooring, solar lights in the backyard…you name it. And so naturally, I love mineral makeup and natural ingredients in every aspect of my skincare routine.
This, obviously, includes deodorant.
For years, I’ve thought that “natural” deodorants just couldn’t happen. I’ve tried so many on the market and they just didn’t work because the alternatives to synthetics were about as functional as windshield wipers during a hurricane. But I’ve been pretty impressed with Secret’s new natural mineral collection, which fights wetness and odor with naturally-derived ingredients. The deo utilizes Febreze’s “smart technology” that takes the odor away by sensing an imbalance in the body. It is therefore, similar to a “controlled release” technology you find in several luxury night creams.
The deodorant contains naturally occurring (and odor fighting) calcium carbonate, helps activate odor fighting capsules that helps neutralize odor — not mask the odor. How many deodorants have you used that really smell extremely flowery or powdery? Chances are they’re masking the odor, and not neutralizing it.
The capsules are also activated by body heat and by water. Now, scientific speak aside, I want to talk about if this deodorant actually provides an all-day protection.
It is a solid deodorant that leaves a minimally white look on your underarms. The residue is practically invisible. The fragrance (there are three: Eucalyptus Blossom, Lemongrass Mint and Unscented) is subtle and not too overpowering, which I like a lot. The protection does last several hours, but I found I had to reapply the deodorant at times (the trick to avoid a second application is layering…if you layer it two or three times the protection lasts all day).

Note: even though the deodorant is classified as “natural,” it still contains aluminum, so it’s not 100% natural.

Posted at 06:02h, 02 JuneThis is not natural at all! There is so standard for calling a product “natural” so companies use the term at will because they know it will attract customers. This may contain a natural mineral ingredient but it’s just tossed in there with a bunch of synthetic and petroleum derived crap! This is not a natural deodorant by any stretch. Just a marketing gimmick.

Posted at 21:45h, 16 JulyIt’s the aluminum zirconium that is of concern in antiperspirants, not the other unnatural ingredients. What’s interesting is that I used antiperspirants for years and a year ago decided to give them up because of concerns over the aluminum zirconium leading to health issues. I tried a few natural deodorants and hated the smell of them…I don’t want perfume of any kind coming from my armpits. I ended up finding a good unscented very natural deodorant that I can recommend called In Love Deodorant. I apply it as needed, sometimes after a shower or before or after a workout, and it works very well. The only downside is that it burns if I apply it right after shaving, so I wait a day. Some days I skip it and find I never smell bad even after tough, hot workouts. All I can think is why was I wearing those chemical antiperspirants for so many years?! It turns out, for me, they are not needed.
