(Review and Giveaway) Designer Elie Saab Introduces First Fragrance

Elie Saab, designer of  some of the most famous red carpet dresses of all time ( think Halle Berry’s Oscar win) is coming out with his own fragrance. Named Le Parfum, the fragrance was created by one of the fragrance world’s top perfumers, Francis Kurkdjian. Kurkdjian has been the nose  behind some hugely  popular perfumes like Narciso Rodriguez for Her  and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea .

Elie Saab’s Le Parfum is a woody floral with a big emphasis on the woods. It is strong and full bodied. You won’t find a whiff of anything light here, nor will you indulge your sweet sugar fantasies.  In this aspect, this fragrance is a bit different from much of what’s out there today and presented very elegantly .

Le Parfum begins  with  the soft florals of jasmine and orange blossom   and then the woods including Patchouli come along close  behind.  As it heads into the mid notes, it gets an underlying light sweetness from the honey note , just enough to ground the woods and soften the edge.

As it dries down the floral remains  but the woods  really take center stage, predominately  cedarwood, along with the patchouli still going very strong.  Rose  mingles in there at the end as well, which adds prettiness and tempers the  woods notes that anchor the dry down.

I think, too, that this is an especially nice  fall into winter scent.  Fragrance is highly personal, and my taste runs to  certain  types of scents depending on warm or the cold weather.  Le Parfum is an ideal sweater season scent: cashmere, boots and leather gloves will combine into an elegant attire.

Elie Saab’s Le Parfum is available at Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue and the line will include bath and body products as well as the perfume.

I think it’s great– some of the best designers have the best perfumes. Best example: CHANEL!

i think it’s great for designers to expand into the beauty world. singers/actors always do it, and i think it makes more sense for designers to because they have a grasp on beauty/fashion!

i would LOVE to try this perfume!!!

I see absolutely nothing wrong with desigeners entering the world of beauty. Both require creativity and I’m all for new things to try.

Why not? If you have an artistic eye, it should translate. I think it’s a perfect fit.

I think the cross-over usually works. I tend to covet the entire image presented by the designer – not just a particular piece. From the makeup to the shows and jewelry, I would like to the option to purchase a complete look. If I like a designer’s style, it tends to carry over to other areas of design.
