Once summer hits, it’s hard to keep any hairstyle under control. But nothing beats bangs that become greasy, frizzy and unruly! We got in touch with three of the hair industry’s top stylists to tell us some of the best ways we can keep our bangs looking their best.

Side-swept bangs as recommended by Rodney Cutler

Why not sport side-swept bangs by styling them with a paddle brush instead of a flat iron to avoid frizz, or pull your bangs away from your face with bobby pins on those unbearably hot and humid days, while some dry shampoo will keep greasy roots from making your bangs looking piecey and gross.

Read on to find out more tips and tricks to rock your bangs all summer long!

How To Avoid Greasy Bangs

The most important thing to remember about oily bangs is that a greasy forehead can have a lot to do with it. Rodney Cutler, owner of Cutler Salons and Redken Brand Ambassador says, “Be careful when moisturizing or using an SPF on your face and near your forehead, as that can definitely contribute to greasiness.”

He also suggests not to drag your comb from roots to ends if your hair is oily, “as it will disperse the oil throughout the hair shaft.”

If all else fails, there’s nothing like a dry shampoo to soak up the greasiness and add texture to hairLuca Blandi, Senior Stylist at the Oscar Blandi Salon suggests that, “People who have any oil should use dry shampoo. The powder formula of Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo ($21.00) absorbs sweat and grease very well, and gives hair some texture so hair doesn’t fall flat and maintains an element of style.”

The Best Ways To Wear Your Bangs

Dianna Agron with blunt bangs… hard to maintain in the summer

A blunt bang looks chic and adorable, but sometimes the heat and humidity makes it impossible to pull off any sleekness. “Side-swept bangs are a great bang style for the summer,” says Luca Blandi. “Or use bobby pins to pull the hair back into a half ponytail.”

Simply braiding your bangs is a great style to wear when it’s too hot to style, “Wear them off your face by twisting them or braiding them to one side and securing that style with a bobby pin,” says Devin Toth, Director of Education at the Ted Gibson Salon.

Cutler advises that a shaggy bang look will do the trick, “as the moisture in the air helps create separation and movement adding pieceiness to a choppy bang.”

He also suggests that a volumizing spray like Redken Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray ($16.00) will help set the bangs back off the face, making sure to blow-dry the roots away from the face. Check out the bang looks above from Cutler’s new The Salon Collection at Ulta.com!

It’s also all in the cut of your bangs. Toth recommends that, “Thicker bangs don’t look greasy on the outer layer. So, if more hair from the top of your hair is added to your bangs they will be fuller and thicker, as opposed to being wispy and thin.”

Best Products To Use on Bangs

“To keep them frizz-free, use a small drop of Oscar Blandi Jasmine Oil Hair Serum ($35.00),” says Luca Blandi.

Redken Diamond Oil ($40.00) and Redken All Soft Argan-6 Oil ($30.00) are great for creating shine and adding moisture without a greasy finish,” explains Cutler.

Toth believes that the best products are determined by the condition your hair is in. “Products that have anti-humectants are great in the summer for avoiding frizz.

I would use a drop of Ted Gibson Tame It Shine Lotion ($19.95) when the bangs are wet, because the grape seed extract in it is a great anti-humectant. When hair is dry, I would use a dry shampoo to absorb grease throughout the day, like L’Oréal Fresh Dust Hair Powder ($19.99).

We love the idea of braided bangs – a gorgeous style for summer and a boho look to see us through the whole of festival season!

To keep our fringe clean and shiny, we don’t use conditioner on it, and we try to keep our hands away from it all day!
