The hairstyles on the Fall / Winter 2011 runways ran the gamut, but the looks that stood out as the newest and most exciting were 60‘s styles that played with gender norms, from sculpted “bad boy” updos to flirty, feminine beehives. Yes, there were the usual beachy waves, messy buns, braids and ponytails, but the most exciting looks were super slick side-parts that looked modern and clean contrasted by ladylike confections that proved that classics never die.

Boy Hair:

Tight french twists were paired with sculpted pompadours to create faux “boy” looks.

Sculpted Side Parts: These modernist looks used lacquering gels (like Extreme Urushi from Shu Uemura Art of Hair) to create a surface that shines like patent leather.

Lady Hair:

Lady-like coiffures were roughed up just enough to make them look modern.

I have had the same “blah” plain hairstyle for several years now. I am an RN who has to be ready for duty quickly so a simple style, yet feminine would make me very happy. Has to be better than the classic ponytail!

I would love to win a free cut b/c I lost my job last September and have been unemployed and not really have the means to spend on my hair. Also my hubby is deployed and is coming home in a few months and I would love to have a hot sexy look to welcome him home!!

I’m 34 years old and I’ve never had a professional haircut. It’s so difficult to find a stylist who can work with “textured hair” (I’m Nigerian-American).

I need a NEW look! I’m in the proverbial rut. Big time. Show me new, and I’ll take it.
