The hairstyles on the Fall / Winter 2011 runways ran the gamut, but the looks that stood out as the newest and most exciting were 60‘s styles that played with gender norms, from sculpted “bad boy” updos to flirty, feminine beehives. Yes, there were the usual beachy waves, messy buns, braids and ponytails, but the most exciting looks were super slick side-parts that looked modern and clean contrasted by ladylike confections that proved that classics never die.

Boy Hair:

Tight french twists were paired with sculpted pompadours to create faux “boy” looks.

Sculpted Side Parts: These modernist looks used lacquering gels (like Extreme Urushi from Shu Uemura Art of Hair) to create a surface that shines like patent leather.

Lady Hair:

Lady-like coiffures were roughed up just enough to make them look modern.

I am in dire need of a new hairstyle. I’m a full time nursing student by day, and by night I work full time as a nursing assistant at a nursing and retirement facility. My schedule doesn’t allow me even an extra 20 minutes to do my hair, and it pains me so much because I have always considered myself to be well groomed and put together. As a result my hair as grown long, limp, and frizzy from the endless ponytails and buns I have to put it in. I need a fashion forward style that will take me minutes to whip into a lovely ‘do. Please help!

We all know that a girl’s bond with her stylist is almost as important as the one with her BFF!! Getting your hair done should be a party. I want to party with Michael! You gotta find someone whose vibe matches yours.

I would love to win a haircut with Michael because I was in the LA loop for years, but got relocated back East and have no one to cut my hair! I think the vibe at Wonderland sounds way cool, my kinda place. What more perfect match is there than a Jersey guy who made it in NY and Jersey girl who made it in LA, and came back!!

Look, I could give you a sob story about losing my job 2 months after I got here and having to move back into my Mom’s house, but really, why pick a Debbie Downer? Don’t you want to dig your clients as much as they dig you? Plus, I have obedient hair that’s in great condition. It listens to products and tools and I take excellent care of it. I promise!

Lastly,I’m an evangelist. When I find something I can’t live without, the world knows about it. I think they call that an “Influencer.” Yup. Me. You want even MORE street cred? You need ME! Thanks!!

The haircut would be for my lady friend. Just imagining the look of surprise and happiness would be enough said.
