(Review) Garnier Launches Pure Clean Shampoo, Conditioner, Haircare Line

Launched right in time for Earth Month and Earth Day, Garnier’s new Pure Clean haircare line features arguably the best shampoo, conditioner and styling product we have tested (I know, that’s a tall claim).

98% derived from natural ingredients, the line is formulated with the clean holding properties of acacia gum, beeswax, and a natural sugar compound. Here are some of the products and how they measure up:

garnier pure clean styling products

Pure Clean Styling Gel: This offers a 24 hour CLEAN hold. It really truly does feel squeaky clean. $4.89.

Pure Clean Smoothing Cream: This smoothing cream is one of the BEST products we’ve seen yet (drugstore or luxury combined) that really and truly provides frizz control. I won’t lie, it does make your strands feel a tad heavy (although the bottle says “No Heaviness”) but there’s nothing greasy about it at all. I loved the end result — a completely flyaway-less head of hair. Buy this in multiples before it sells out. $4.89.

Pure Clean Finishing Paste. Non sticky and as fragrant as the hills. This is a product that’s truly unisex too. $4.89.

Pure Clean Shampoo & Conditioner: The formulation has no parabens, silicone or dye and promises a cleansing experience that doesn’t weigh the hair down. It really does that and more. My hair felt super squeaky clean and the smell was divine. Add to that that the shampoo leaves behind less residuals, and you have a win win. The bottles are made of PET and contain widely recycled plastic. Best of all, Garnier formed a partnership with Terracycle, which is a recycling company that will pay YOU to ship empty bottles to them, and also give 2 cents per bottle to you. How’s that for smarts?

I am also experiencing the “greasy” result mentioned above. My hair is really sticky, and looks like I haven’t washed it in weeks! Searching the web to see if anyone else was having the same results got me here. After reading what Emily said about the “detox” period, I think I’ll stick it out a while longer and see if it improves. How much detox does it need though…? If it doesn’t happen soon though its going to the trash!

I absolutely hate this new product. I made my hair feel greasy and it looked dull. The layers in my hair didn’t take shape because of the heaviness i was feeling in my hair. Usually my hair feels squeaky clean and i’m able to run my fingers through…this time around it felt so waxy i couldn’t put my fingers through it without feeling the waxy feeling.
Two full bottles down the drain.

I was excited to purchase a product that was so Eco friendly, I even put another fructise product down to purchase this one. I’ve always used fructise products and have always been happy. Anyway I was first unhappy with the conditioner, noticing that no matter how long I left it in my hair would still come out dry my husband even said that the conditioner was horrible. (i think thats a lot for a guy to notice something like that) We have been trying to use up the product and just waiting for the day that the bottle was empty until today, when I threw them both away (recycled auctlly) after I got some shampoo in my eye this morning. Now I have experienced the pain of getting a red pepper flake in my eye, this was worse. 12 hours later, my eye still feels like I had sand pepper rubbed in my eye, I have a blurry spot in my eye. I know that it’s just irritated and will be better by tomorrow, but I’m a little concerned about what is in this product that could cause so much pain. Needless to say. This product is horrible.
