(Review) Garnier Launches Pure Clean Shampoo, Conditioner, Haircare Line

Launched right in time for Earth Month and Earth Day, Garnier’s new Pure Clean haircare line features arguably the best shampoo, conditioner and styling product we have tested (I know, that’s a tall claim).

98% derived from natural ingredients, the line is formulated with the clean holding properties of acacia gum, beeswax, and a natural sugar compound. Here are some of the products and how they measure up:

garnier pure clean styling products

Pure Clean Styling Gel: This offers a 24 hour CLEAN hold. It really truly does feel squeaky clean. $4.89.

Pure Clean Smoothing Cream: This smoothing cream is one of the BEST products we’ve seen yet (drugstore or luxury combined) that really and truly provides frizz control. I won’t lie, it does make your strands feel a tad heavy (although the bottle says “No Heaviness”) but there’s nothing greasy about it at all. I loved the end result — a completely flyaway-less head of hair. Buy this in multiples before it sells out. $4.89.

Pure Clean Finishing Paste. Non sticky and as fragrant as the hills. This is a product that’s truly unisex too. $4.89.

Pure Clean Shampoo & Conditioner: The formulation has no parabens, silicone or dye and promises a cleansing experience that doesn’t weigh the hair down. It really does that and more. My hair felt super squeaky clean and the smell was divine. Add to that that the shampoo leaves behind less residuals, and you have a win win. The bottles are made of PET and contain widely recycled plastic. Best of all, Garnier formed a partnership with Terracycle, which is a recycling company that will pay YOU to ship empty bottles to them, and also give 2 cents per bottle to you. How’s that for smarts?

I recently bought the conditioner. I was very excited to see a natural line in the stores. With my first use I also noticed a difference right away. My hair felt squeaky clean. I have been using it for a week now and the only downside I noticed is somehow it makes my hair very very greasy. Usually by the end of the day it looks like I literally greased my hair. I’m not sure why this is happening and I really love the idea behind a more natural product but greasy hair is, well gross.

Yes, I was also excited about the idea of a more natural shampoo and conditioner. However, like Shana, my hair was seriously greasy. I have never reviewed a beauty product before; I keep my routines VERY simple. But I just had to see if anyone else had a similar experience with this product. Even while blow drying my hair after washing, my hair was greasy, and by the end of the day, it was disgusting. Just letting you know.

I just did a little research to see if anyone else is getting the nasty greasy feeling, and obviously, they are. I am truly disppointed. I’ve been using Garnier Fructics for years and this is the first product I am truly disappointed with. Now I have two full bottles of product I won’t use. Hooray.

Ok. This stuff is TERRIBLE! My hair and both of my daughters’ hair was absolutely disgusting! So greasy! It looked like I hadn’t bathed my daughters in weeks! I would NEVER recommend this to anybody!

The reason some of you may be experiencing extra-greasy hair, is that your hair is going through a “Detox” period. Although silicones and parabens are ultimately very damaging to hair, they do create a shiny and soft *appearance*. When the hair is deprived of these products, it often takes a while before it gets used to it and produces more oil for a few days or weeks.
I personally have experienced this, and found that by sticking it out (and rinsing my hair with a spoonful of baking soda dissolved in a cup of water) my hair eventually got over the “shock” and became healthier and more manageable.
Additionally, this conditioner is much heaver and thicker than traditional conditioner, and often requires you to use much less of it.

I have very curly difficult to manage hair, and am constantly trying to get it in shape, so these are just some of the issues that I’ve encountered.
