Beauty Companies That Give Back: Four Brands With a Charity Mindset

We’re not talking just about Breast Cancer Awareness Month or seasonal holidays; these are beauty companies that are continuously involved in charitable missions and events and have been over decades. Check out some of the beauty companies that are making the world a better place:

The Body Shop

This company has always been mindful of fair trade, from the get go. Recently, I attended an event that showed me why this is a brand I’ll stick by through the thick and thin. The Body Shop has always been a proud supporter of the Somaly Mam Foundation, an organization founded by a former sex slave and that aims to put an end to the rapidly rising issue of human trafficking. The gala benefiting the Somaly Mam Foundation was a moving experience, and two smart young women (both formerly sold to brothels in Cambodia), came forward to speak about how rich and fulfilling their lives were after Somaly Mam’s intervention and rehabilitation efforts. Hats off to The Body Shop for supporting this truly great cause.

L’Oreal

Every year, I’m impressed with the list of women who make the cut for L’Oreal’s Annual Women of Worth Gala. Check out this years’ nominees and be sure to vote. Last year, we had the good fortune to attend the Gala in New York and listen to the finalists who spoke about their dedication and efforts to make the world a better place.

Estee Lauder Group Of Companies

We always think of Estee Lauder’s outstanding work during October during BCA, because the giant conglomerate has been joining in the fight for 19 years in a row, with its donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (the totals are more than $8.5 million).

M.A.C.

There’s no beauty brand I know that places so much emphasis in giving back to the community affected by AIDS than M.A.C. Each year, its Viva Glam spokespersons and other endeavors aim to raise money for the M.A.C. Aids Fund which was established in 1994.

We cannot fail to mention there are so many others who regularly give back by introducing seasonal products with a portion of proceeds going to charity. For a list of BCA brands that give back, click here.

Cannot believe you did not include Avon. The Avon Foundation for Women is the world’s largest corporate-affiliated philanthropy focused on issues that matter most to women. Through 2010, Avon global philanthropy has donated more than $800 million in more than 50 countries for causes most important to women.

From 2000 through 2010, Avon philanthropy provided nearly $121 million to breast cancer and domestic violence agencies in New York. Through the end of 2010 in the United States, the Avon Foundation has donated more than $23 million to support awareness, education, direct service and prevention programs aimed at reducing domestic violence. And these initiative are global as well.
