With NY Fashion Week already seeming like a distant memory, we’ve finally been able to decompress and compile a list of our favorite Fall 2012 makeup looks — some so breathtaking we might not be able to wait until then to try them out. From scarlet red painted eyes to a new, more colorful, take on the classic cat eye, there is bound to be a look just for you to try at home!

Best Eye: Prabal Gurung

The insane metallic blue eyes (pictured above) stole the show at Prabal Gurung in a look that was supremely bold (and unmistakably beautiful). Inspired by the movie Avatar, beetles, and peacocks, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury for M∙A∙C blended teal and green shades from the lid to the brow bone using diagonal strokes “to mimic the feather pattern of a bird,” she told RealBeauty.com. She then swept a copper shadow along the lower lashes to enhance the richness of the hues. The cream shadows used at the show won’t be available until Fall 2012, but, in the meantime, we recommend M∙A∙C Eye Shadows in Electric Eel, Freshwater, and Steamy to get those birds of paradise-like stunners.

Best Lip: Christian Siriano

The Project Runway breakout star capitalized on the current vampire trend by showing a collection inspired by the sexy bloodsuckers. M∙A∙C ’s Polly Osmond followed suit with a beauty homage to bats and all things goth. “It’s beautiful scary,” the makeup artist said to WWD. The juicy aubergine pout was the focus, with Osmond reshaping the lips to look like the outstretched wings of a bat. First, she sketched an angular outline with M∙A∙C Lip Pencil in Nightmoth and filled it in with M∙A∙C Lipstick in Media. Osmond dabbed a coat of clear gloss on the lips right before the models walked to prevent bleeding and feathering.

Best Eyeliner: Anna Sui
Winged liner in black is so blasé. This season, Anna Sui turned the dial up a notch with an electric azure swoop that gave the sexy cat eye a somewhat daffy spin. CoverGirl global creative design director Pat McGrath sculpted an ultra-thick wing from the lash to just about the crease using CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Blue Boom. She then filled in the shape with CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Indigo Impact. After she lined the inner rims with a white pencil to make the eye appear larger, McGrath brushed lashes with CoverGirl LashPerfection Mascara. “It’s my favorite,” she told Style.com. For the final touch, the makeup artist glued hand-cut blue circles on the lower lash line so that they were aligned directly underneath the pupils. “It adds a little interest,” she said.

Best Blush: Rodarte

Cheeks are probably the most underrated facial feature, and Rodarte proved that blush can be just as statement-making as any beauty product. Inspired by Australia’s Outback, and the Dust Bowl, the tawny shades used at the show made skin look wind chapped. Nars makeup artist James Kaliardos achieved a chiseled face by brushing multiple layers of Nars Bronzer in Lagunaunderneath cheekbones, which he then dragged through and above brows in an arc shape. Kaliardos finished by dusting Nars Blush in Madly on the apples of cheeks “geisha-style,” he said to Style.com. The overall look
was rugged, sculpted, and sun-soaked.

Most Innovative: Donna Karan
There’s nothing new about a red lip; it’s as classic as makeup gets. But rouge eyes? Now that’s avant-garde. The trick here is how to wear it, since scarlet shadow can all too often make you look sickly. Charlotte Tilbury pulled off the look by focusing on texture and color. In this case, the shiny chocolate-covered cherry eyes were created by mixing M∙A∙C Lipsticks in Partyline and Diva, then applying them with a brush to the lid and slightly above the crease. Tilbury nixed the mascara and instead defined brows with M∙A∙C Eye Brows self-sharpening pencils in Lingering and Fling. In case you’re turned off by lipstick on your lids, try NYX Single Eye Shadow in Red Bronze instead.

Most Beautiful: Zac Posen

Our pick for prettiest makeup combined exoticism, classicism, and glamour in a look that was inspired by Japan. “It’s geisha couture,” makeup artist Kabuki told WWD. Using M∙A∙C products, Kabuki gave the eyes a horizontal, winged shape by using three shades that swooped to the temples. He highlighted lids with a white pencil that was layered with a white cream shadow, and blended  M∙A∙C Eye Shadow in Expensive Pink into the crease. He then elongated the eye with black liner that he flicked into a “smoky trail” at the end. Kabuki evened out the face with a full coverage foundation and dusted a frosty highlighter on the cheekbones. To balance the look, Kabuki mixed M∙A∙C Lipmix in Orange and Red for a lacquered lip. Très belle, indeed!

Most Wearable: Jason Wu
The one face that got our hearts all aflutter just also happens to be the one that you could easily translate to an everyday look. With a sultry smoky-green eye and a bare lip, makeup artist Diane Kendal for M∙A∙C created a look that was at once warrior strong and Hollywood classic. Kendal prepped the eye with M∙A∙C Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Tealo, and then layered M∙A∙C Eye Kohl in Minted up through the crease. She topped the mix with M∙A∙C Eye Shadow in Club and M∙A∙C  Pigment in Kelly Green by blending the shades into a cat eye silhouette. Eyes were elongated with a black cream liner and M∙A∙C Eye Kohl in Blooz, while top lashes only were coated with M∙A∙C Haute and Naughty Lash Mascara. The rest of the face was left uncovered, save for a dab of M∙A∙C Lip Conditioner on the mouth. Now this is a look that we’ll be trying out way before fall.

The lips of Christian Siriano are so striking and different. I love it. I don’t know if I can pull it off but I’d like to try.

The Jason Wu look is gorgeous. All of the others are pretty theatrical/runway makeup and would need to be adapted to real life. (although, it’s beyond me how you adapt the look of “dirty face” to real life in an attractive way! i.e. Rodarte)
