How To Build A Successful Career In The Beauty Industry: 42nd Annual CEW Achiever Awards Recognized Top Women Leaders In The Cosmetic Business Industry: Market Trends 2017, 2018

The CEW Achiever Awards is a huge inspirational event in the beauty industry. CEW annually honors successful women in the industry who have risen to executive positions at their respective companies in sales, marketing, and/or product development.

One of the most inspirational aspects of these events is hearing the stories of these women. We all know that success does not happen overnight. It takes hard work, dedication, determination, and ambition to climb each rung on the ladder of success.

CEW honored six women for their leadership and contributions to the beauty industry. The awards were presented on September 15, 2017, during a luncheon at the New York Hilton Midtown.

Barbara Calcagni said that after so many years in the industry, the big lesson she learned is to prioritize what’s important, like her family.

Maureen Kelly was described by her colleagues as being very nimble and flexible. Maureen says she is most proud of being able to give back. She also stated she wanted Tarte to be a family business.

Gemma Lionello was described by her colleagues as being smart, hardworking, competitive, and innovative.

Loretta Miraglia believes that success comes from having a good balance between work and personal life. Lorette left attendees with a quote from Maya Angelou, “When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”

Kelly Vanasse said she believes in people. She works hard to create environments where everyone can thrive. Additionally, Kelly believes in the 3 A’s: adventure, agility, and awareness. These are the keys to an awesome life.

Jamie Kern Lima took her acceptance speech as an opportunity to call for change within the beauty industry. Jamie challenged the industry with important questions about the images of beauty that are being put into the world today. She asked, “How will these images impact your mothers, and your sisters, and how will they impact your daughters?” In closing her speech, she asks, “What will you do with the power that is you?” You can watch Jamie’s speech here.

Judith Amores, PhD Student and Research Assistant, MIT Media Lab, was honored with the Scent Innovator Award, presented by IFF, for creating the first olfactory computational necklace, Essence. This award recognizes individuals whose innovations in scent research will impact the future of the fine fragrance category.
