Tarte is making quite a splash! this summer with their Limited-Edition Aqualillies Collection for Summer 2013. Beautiful mint green, summer-hot coral (two of my favorite colors!) and opulent gold emblazon the aquatic, scallop-like motif that encase every item in this collection.
The Aqualillies are an all-girl synchronize swim team that caught the eye of Tarte founder and CEO, Maureen Kelly, during their appearance on an episode of Glee. Their young, energetic whimsy and Tarte’s high-performance natural™ ingredients were the perfect combination to bring this collection from the pool to your makeup bags! Let’s see what’s in the collection!
First up is the perfectly circular, mirrored and luxe Tarte Aqualillies Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye and Cheek Palette ($38.00). The palette includes one Highlighter shade in Champagne, one Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess, a limited-edition Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Captivating and six eyeshadows: Hammock (a matte brown), Bikini (an irredescent peachy color), Barefoot (a shimmery champagne), Parasol (a shimmery off-white), Sundeck (a matte, light neutral brown) and Poolside (an irredescent blue/green).
All the shadows work so well together! And, like most summer palettes, blue takes the lead! It was interesting to see how to use it among the two matte shades. But, I really fell for Bikini and Barefoot — two colors that really brightened my eyes.
The Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Captivating swatched relatively sheer, but lasted for hours! I hear such great things about this blush’s long-lasting formula — and boy, did it last… and last… The Highlighter was not too shimmery, but allowed your skin to shine through. And the Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess was surprising sheer as well — I wasn’t intimidated by applying it, as it gave subtle contouring.
Who doesn’t want a cream eyeliner that is water-proof, regardless of summer? These adorable, little pots make up Tarte’s Aqualillies Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner ($24.00). Available in Splash (a luscious teal) and Black.
Each comes with their own double-sided eyeliner brush that has a straight, regular eyeliner brush on one side and a angled eyeliner brush on the other. These were so easy-to-apply; the brush glided across my lash line with ease and I never worried about it fading. It stayed put!
Setting your summer makeup has never been easier than with Tarte’s Aqualillies Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder ($29.00). The white setting powder slicks away any traces of oil while setting in your makeup (and blush!). It comes out stark white, but it blends in completely with no chalky residue. I can’t wait to see this in action once the sweltering summer months hit.
Finish off your summer look with a coral lip! Glamazon™ Pure Performance 12-hour Lipstick ($26.00) in Timeless comes in a long case with its beautiful wooden cap. This Amazonian clay infused lipstick nourishes and balances lip moisture, while providing full-on color.
Eye Look: Shadows in Bikini, Barefoot and Hammock; Liner in Splash
Final Look
Unlike most long-wearing lipsticks, this one doesn’t leave your lips dry. I like to dab it on and make sure it really sinks into my lips for a long-wear application. The color is a gorgeous coral that reminded me of the coveted lip color the glamazons of the ‘40s wore in every movie.
I am loving this summer collection from Tarte, and can’t wait to put on my bathing suit and pretend I am one of The Aqualillies. Maybe they’ll be holding auditions soon!
