(Review) New Maybelline Falsies Volum’ Express Flare Mascara and Photos

The latest launch in Maybelline Mascaras is the Falsies Volum’ Express Flared line: one is waterproof, and the other is washable. On first glance, the promo picture is sizzling:

How do the lashes achieve this special, curvy look? For one, it’s the spoon curler brush and a keratin-enriched formula that promise you 300% MORE visible lashes (the idea is a good winged out and over the top effect). Our first thoughts on the brush:

It’s elegant and has a nice shape to it. It reminds me of the original Falsies brush  but much more curvy! It’s the Christina Hendricks of mascara brushes. The good news is that it does leave your lashes much more curvy, with a winged effect. It also deposits an even amount of mascara on the lashes, so that’s a great thing. As for 300% more visible lashes? Not sure we can even measure that, but that’s what Maybelline promises.

Our model, Antonella, gave it a whirl and she said that it really held its own throughout the day. She is wearing the Falsies Flared Mascara in regular (there’s also a waterproof version). Here she is, after using the mascara on her lashes:

Our thoughts? This is a good mascara for those that want that flare factor. In this aspect, I haven’t seen a mascara like this on the market. Lancome Definicils has a very curvy PRO High Definition Curved Brush Mascara but is meant more for lash separation than flare. Maybelline’s Great Lash has a curved brush, and so does L’Oreal’s Voluminous Curved Brush Mascara but the latter does not come in a waterproof version, which I think is a great deal.

For $6, this is a mascara I would invest in, simply because it does so much that other mascaras do not, and it offers really good value. As for waterproof or not, that’s up to you! To compare this mascara to the original, read on.

I love my lashes long, and always have. False lashes were replaced with L’Orreal’s double extend beauty tubes, then by the beauty tubes with a hint of glitter in them. Problems with those: they are clumpy and not waterproof.

The Falsies Flare mascara separates and legthens without getting clumpy (I may still use the glitter from the beauty tubes over it though). It should be noted that these do nothing to plump up your lashes, just lengthen them, but the flared length is great.

Downside to Falsies Flared: for some reason, the waterproof version (I haven’t tried the regular) smells a little funny.

Side note: I consider my lashes too short unless they brush the interior of my sunglasses…Falsies Flare delivered on that.
