Review, Before/After Photos: Eyelash Perms: Get Long-Lasting, Curled Lashes – Is It Worth The Risks?

No matter where I go, the one beauty item I cannot live without is my eyelash curler. I tried the spectrum of these pseudo torture devices and once I found THE one, I was done. But wouldn’t it be nice if you could throw away that tool and wake up with uplifted lashes everyday? Technology has once again made this possible, but with every great invention you must always take into consideration the drawbacks. This stands true for the newest beauty trend, eyelash perms.

Similar to a hair perm, this procedure uses a chemical applied to the eyelashes that will maintain seemingly curled-in-appearance lashes. The process starts with the stylist strategically gluing your eyelashes to a tube that looks like a curler. This keeps the shape while the chemical is applied and allowed to set. After the chemical, a neutralizer is dispersed onto the lashes and sits for about 15-minutes. When done, the result is beautifully curled lashes that look like your Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($20.00) was stashed in your handbag.

Before/After

Although a great way to skip a step in the morning and keep the curl, this procedure is certainly not without risks. According to BellaSugar.com, eyelash perming has not been certified by the FDA, and if the chemicals get into your eyes some side effects include irritation and even blindness.

After doing your homework, if you decide the benefits outweigh the risks, choose a reputable salon with a stylist that is certified in eyelash perms. Look at his or her credentials and make sure you feel comfortable with them, as they are painting chemicals very close to your eyes. Along with choosing a stylist it is important that you research the procedure fully. Make sure you ask questions before and during each step of the procedure. Remember: It’s not like hair that will grow back, those chemicals can ruin your eyesight so it is important to be your own advocate.

So, ladies, tell us… Have you tried these eyelash perms? If so, let us know and comment below!

I get mine done every 2-3 months. I have long, straight lashes and they do not curl no matter what I do. I’ve tried all different mascaras, eyelash curlers, and even heated my curler…nothing works but the perm. It smells exactly like hair perm chemicals, but as long as you trust your esthetician and she knows what she’s doing, I think it’s safe. Done in less than 20min and your eyelashes look amazing! I just throw some mascara on in the morning and I’m good to go!

I don’t have my lashes permed and I don’t think I would risk my eyesight just to avoid curling my lashes in the morning or anytime. Some people might have done it and loved it but it’s just something I rather skip on! Great and informative review, thanks! Twitter mardelD03
