I was so excited when I found out I was going to be able to review an Hourglass product. Wonder why Madonna has been looking so fierce these last few years? It’s all due to Hourglass. My colleague Nicole always wrote such positive reviews. I can’t wait to see what’s in store!

Nº 28 Primer Serum ($65.00) is an ultra-hydrating, nutrient-rich primer and serum infused with twenty-eight beneficial ingredients to nurture skin and prepare it for foundation. As a gal with combination skin, I was curious if it would work for me. I pumped out just a small amount and the scent of the essential oils immediately relaxed me.

The texture of this product is similar to an anti-frizz serum for hair. I also found out not only can you use this product on your skin, but it can be used on hair as well! I smoothed the product into my skin, using massage methods I learned in beauty school. What a wonderful feeling! It sank right into my skin and I looked all glowy and well-rested — two things I am always aiming for. Before I jump into the scientific details of this product, I’m sure you are all wondering, ‘Well, how long did your foundation last?’ ‘How did your skin look?’ I have to tell you, I am definitely going to get another bottle after I finish this one!

I am thirty-eight (soon to be thirty-nine, eek!) and I am no longer looking to be Ms. Matte. I want something to diffuse soft lines, and my ever-lingering large pores. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! This product is absolutely amazing! Would I recommend this serum primer for girls in their early twenties? No. I would however recommend this product to EVERY WOMAN OVER THIRTY!  Since this product is part skincare/part cosmetic, I did not use moisturizer on top. For my combination skin, one drop was just enough to cover my face and neck — you can then use any left over on your ends. A true multi-purpose product. I think I can safely say this is in my top three favorite primers! My pores were non-existent and even my undereyes were smoothed without a sign of crows feet anywhere. I can’t say enough good things about it.

Now, for the science portion of my review: Hourglass Nº 28 Primer Serum contains fourteen essential oils to soften the complexion. Some of these oils are boise de rose, vanilla, clove, lavender, cedar and geranium. This product also contains ten lipid-rich plant-based oils: rose hips, borage oil and evening primrose to help hydrate the skin’s underlying layers.  And, last but not least, four skin-rejuvenating vitamins which smooth the skin’s complexion: vitamins A, B5, C and E.

One final thought on this product (besides me LOVING IT!): It is free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates and synthetic dyes. You can purchase Hourglass Nº 28 Primer Serum at www.hourglasscosmetics.com, Barneys NY, and select Sephora stores nationwide.

So…do you want your skin in the best condition it can be?

Hi Nancy….The main reason is the price tag..and I do feel there are GREAT primers at a lower price point. It sinks right into skin, so it would only be benefit. I’m sure your skin is in great condition already, and I just believe that you wouldn’t see much of a change in your skin as someone 0lder. THat is the only reason…
