Review, Photos, Swatches: Mary Kay Cosmetics – The Art of Nature Limited Edition Color Story

I have been using Mary Kay products ever since I was a little girl. I used to love it when my mom’s friends would come over and take out a treasure trove of color and products. I admit, as I got older and I was able to take the bus to the department stores and read Vogue, I became a product snob — Mary Kay seemed dated and something that my grandma would use. Well, flash forward to 2012 and here I am trying out Mary Kay products, and I must say I have changed my opinion.

Mary Kay has definitely changed with the times, and I was excited as I opened the box to new shadows, polishes…especially the lip glosses in this collection. First item I tried was the Mary Kay Fluid Eye Color ($15.00) in two new shades Pearl (a light warm shimmer) and Rainforest (a metallic, iridescent hue with a terracotta undertone and metallic blue overtone that shimmers in the light) — my favorite of the collection! It looks great with my amber/hazel eyes! I wore this today at my nephew’s birthday party, (that is a lot of running around!) and my eyes were crease- free when I got home!

Next up was the Mary Kay Dual Chambered Lip Glaze ($14.00)! Two shades available as well with this product in Glistening Sand (a shimmery taupe) and Warm Coral (metallic auburn). I loved the shades of both these products, but, I am going to tell you right now…YES, these are VERY STICKY! If you don’t like sticky gloss, you will NOT like these. Also, when applying make sure you squeeze from the center. As I mentioned, this product is dual chambered: if you don’t squeeze just right you won’t get color, just the clear gloss. Overall, it gives a nice glossy, soft effect!

Last but not least is the high-gloss Nail Lacquer ($9.00). I love that they have a two-in-one product Base Coat/Top Coat. And, to top it off, there are two shades to complement the overall look: Crushed Pearl (warm, light and shimmery) and Lava (metallic auburn).

Overall, I give the packaging, price point, product performance and color choice an 8 out of 10!

So…are you going to unleash the mother earth goddess in you this spring and try these Mary Kay products? Find out more about these products at www.marykay.com

I am not in love with either of the colors. I do think they would look better on someone with tan skin and amber/hazel eyes though. I would like to see something a little bit more “summer friendly” maybe a clinique style chubby gloss that can double as a blush in the coral for us fair girls.
