The ultimate makeup event of the year happened only a week ago at the The Makeup Show NYC, which took place May 4th and 5th, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Makeup artists, bloggers, fans and exhibitors filled the huge venue space to share and learn about the latest and greatest in makeup and skincare.
This year alone brought together 7,000 attendees with over 20 new beauty brands that joined the show for the first year ever. The show was proud to welcome Sephora, ARDENCY INN, Black|Up Cosmetics, Ashunta Sheriff Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Jouer Cosmetics, Surrat Beauty, Vincent Longo, Breakups to Makeup and many more to their first and highly successful The Makeup Show NYC.
“In our 9th year, we wanted to bring attendees something new to The Makeup Show NYC. A few of these additions were the debut of The Makeup Show Icon Gallery, additional exhibitors and classes, and return of the Career Fair. I’m always looking for new ways to inspire and educate the pro community and these things truly made this year the most inspiring yet. Over 10 of the best makeup artists in the industry took the stage to bring a flood of inspiration over the pro-community, including Nick Barose, Troy Surratt, Kabuki, Jake Bailey, Charlotte Tilbury, Alice Lane, Ashunta Sheriff and more. These artists are responsible for beautifying the faces of models, celebs and musicians on the cover of magazines to music videos and red carpets. Although a daunting task, we rounded up the Top 10 Trends, Releases And Moments from the 2014 The Makeup Show. Read on to see what’s new and what got us all excited!
1. The Makeup Show Icon Gallery: “Beauty and Soul” Kevyn Aucoin exhibit
The Makeup Show Icon Gallery: “Beauty and Soul” made its New York debut and featured never-before-seen-pieces from Kevyn Aucoin’s life work, celebrating his dedication to the art of makeup. Show-goers were able to dive deep into personal handwritten letters, notes and swatches of the legendary artist. Everything from his makeup collections to his first-ever Vogue cover were on display. Shelly Taggar, owner of The Makeup Show, curated the gallery.
2. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics — NEW! Summer 2014 Collection
If you could make it through the crowds, then the OCC table was displaying its latest releases for all to see and play with! The 100% vegan- and cruelty-free line has expanded its product list with cosmetic brushes, along with the Dune Generation Summer 2014 selection of metallic Nail Lacquers, Colour Pencils for eyes and lips and Lip Tars — all swatched for ya above!
The NEW! Tarred And Feathered Lip Balm is a white and black cookie-like lip balm set that adds subtle sheen, depth and mutes lips for endless looks.
3. Charlotte Tilbury Cosmetics — SNEAK PEEK!
We almost snapped our necks from doing a double-take at the sneak-peek display of the Charlotte Tilbury cosmetic line. Already receiving rave reviews in the UK, Charlotte’s line won’t be available in the states until September 2014, but The Makeup Show had her entire line for us to give a go at!
What caught our eye right off the bat was the rose gold-foiled Bar Of Gold Skin Gilding Highlighter that leaves a luminous glow to the highpoints of one’s face and the Magic Cream, a secret mix of Charlotte‘s of patented anti-age ingredients, a hyaluronic acid booster, plus floral extracts that lift and transform tired skin in an instant!
4. Vincent Longo Starlette Gel Eye Stains — Watercolor Eyes
Who doesn’t love a lip stain? But factor in an eye stain and we’re all ears, or rather, eyes. Vincent Longo has JUST released their latest eye product in the form of a stained eyeshadow. Keeping on-trend with watercolor finishes this season, these eye stain colors make for a great base for cream/powder shadows, or just wear on their own for a light wash of color.
5. Mehron B.L.A.M.E Black Light Activated Makeup Essentials — Black Light-Activated Makeup!
Black light makeup is going to be big! These makeup pens apply like regular makeup in orange, red, blue, green and clear colors. 6. Lit Cosmetics — Glitter Mania!
You might have seen this brand at Sephora, but this loose glitter company was dazzling for all to see (and swatch) at The Makeup Show. Everything from solid colors, shimmers, metallics and electrics were at one’s disposal to play with — and the Clearly Liquid Glitter Base is the secret weapon to make it all stay and stick for hours. When it came to brushes, one that caught our eye was the Cattiva.
