To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Kiehl’s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, the 163-year-old skincare company unveils a new limited-edition bottle inspired by one of the formula’s most famous fans.

“It’s always been a point of pride for Kiehl’s that one of our most iconic formulas, Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, was beloved by one of the world’s most iconic artists. As we celebrate the anniversary of one of our most enduring formulas, we also wanted to celebrate our long relationship with the art world, by inviting one of Warhol’s most frequent collaborators to partner with us,” said Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl’s US. “We’re incredibly honored that Christopher Makos joined us for the celebration and designed the anniversary label for Blue Herbal.”

Since debuting in the early ‘60s, “the blue stuff,” as it’s known by loyal fans, has reached product icon status, generated legions of loyal celebrity fans, including Andy Warhol. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, Kiehl’s introduces a limited-edition bottle designed by renowned photographer and Andy’s friend, Christopher Makos, who captured Warhol’s essence in frequent portraits through the years.

Says Makos, about the collaboration, Andy Warhol related successful art to successful business. Kiehl’s is great to work with because they ‘get it’. I’m happy because when people ask me what I’m doing I can say, ‘I’m in cosmetics.'”

The limited-edition bottle features 18 of Christopher Makos’ iconic photos, including images that depict an homage to New York City. Since the formula first debuted in the early ‘60s, Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion has sold nearly 900 thousand bottles in the last 5 years and even found a home in the permanent archives of The Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
