Spring is on the rise, and that means warmer, hotter months are ahead. What better way to give our skin some much needed hydration and comfort than by spritzing our faces with a cooling, refreshing facial mist. Here is a simple DIY cleansing mist that will help cool you down and provide some awesome anti-aging skin benefits, too!

What You’ll need:

White Tea -white tea improves the function of skin cells and protects you from harmful UV rays.

White tea is also an amazing anti-ager! It fights the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which prevents sagging of the skin. According to Science Daily, white tea “prevented the activities of the enzymes which breakdown elastin and collagen which can lead to wrinkles that accompany aging.” The researchers were more shocked at how formidable of an anti-ager it is, “white tea reduces the risk of inflammation which is characteristic of rheumatoid arthritis and some cancers as well as wrinkles.” Dr. Oz also says that “It’s not new [white tea]—it’s very old—and [has] been used for centuries for healing purposes.”

Now, let’s get down to some mist-making business!

Ingredients:

Cucumbers –  have so many skin benefits! Cucumbers improve your complexion and help treat sunburns, which is essential for the hot weather.

Lemon Zest – according to Dr. C. Norman Shealy, a neurosurgeon and the founder of the American Holistic Medicine Association, lemons can fight inflammation and infection associated with acne, and have the antioxidant power of Vitamin C. Lemons also have cancer-fighting ingredients and smell amazing!

A Bowl of Hot Water

 The Procedure:

Step 1:

Before you begin, boil a pot of water. I like to get it as hot as possible. In the meantime: zest a whole lemon. When the water finishes boiling and the pot has cooled a bit, pour the water into a bowl.

Step 2:

Insert about 4 tea packets into the bowl and let it steep for about 10 minutes. At the 3-minute mark, add the lemon zest.
(You will notice the wonderful smell of tea and lemon filling up the room!)

 Step 3:

After about 10 minutes, grab a colander and strain the tea and lemon zest. It is preferable that you use a tightly woven colander so you can grab all the zest from the lemons.

Step 4:

Place the strained tea in the same bowl or a new one (I placed it in a white bowl so you can see the effects of the white tea and lemon). Let the tea/lemon water cool a little.

Step 5:

Next, find an empty aluminum spray bottle. I purchased my 8 oz. bottle from FNWL. Aluminum works best, because sun exposure to the bottle maintains the nature of the contents. Be careful, though — when something is too hot or too cold, you will feel the effects of the aluminum bottle when you touch it.

Step 6:

Grab a funnel and pour the contents into the bottle; the bottle will feel warm. Spray in the air to ensure the spray bottle works.

Step 7:

Stick the bottle in the refrigerator and wait about an hour or so. When you take it out, it will feel cold, which is perfect for sticking in your beach bag or on the go for those hot days!

The smell is absolutely amazing and with each spray you will smell the zesty lemon! I grab this mist all the time! My skin feels amazing after I use it and I can not get enough of that smell.

Enjoy!

You can get some milk or soy milk if preferred and mix it in with oatmeal. Stick it in the microwave for about 5 secs and apply it like a mask. Leave on for 15 and your skin will be a lot firmer and illuminated. You can also use plain yogurt ask a mask.
