GIVEAWAY: L’Oreal Honors Women of Worth in 5th Annual Gala

There are companies who talk the talk, but L’Oreal truly walks the walk when it comes to giving back to the community. Which is why we love them.

The 5th Annual Women of Worth gala was held at the Hearst Building on Thursday, December 9th, and honored ten extraordinary women from the ages of 12 to 90 who are giving back to the community by performing “everyday miracles.” There was not a dry eye in sight as celebrity presenters (including Kerry Washington, Trisha Yearwood and Viola Davis) gave checks to all the honorees and presented the finalist with her special award.

Remember, how you all helped vote for the winner, earlier?

We watched a short video about each participant, and her cause. Each honoree’s dedication, persistence and commitment is an inspiration to all women out there who want to give back to the community: they clearly show that even the tiniest bit of help makes a DIFFERENCE.

We also know, that in addition to the $5,000 check from L’Oreal, these ladies could use some donations to their charity too, so please donate if you are blessed:

The Ten Honorees

Lynn Gaubatz – Falls Church, VA; Founded AdoptALibrary.org, providing thousands of books for tribal colleges, reservations, prisons and schools across the nation and around the world.

Robin Steele – Eagan, MN; Founded Cheerful Givers to help less fortunate families give birthday presents to their children.

Lisa Williams – Peachtree City, GA; Established Circle of Friends and Living Water for Girls to provide safe refuge for American girls and advocate against commercial sexual exploitation.

Sue Kutz – Rock Hill, SC; Activist for Back the Pack, a program that discretely identifies undernourished students and provides them with nutritious food on weekends to alleviate symptoms of chronic hunger.

Jill Tappert – Boulder, CO; Has made countless strides in the treatment and support available to families with autistic children through her work with Autism Society of Colorado.

Myself, with Allison Kish from L’Oreal

• Taryn Davis – Buda, TX; Founded The American Widow Project, a non-profit organization offering support and healing to this generation’s military widows across the United States.

• Ethel Paley – New York, NY; First executive director of FRIA, a group dedicated to making sure seniors get proper care, services and treatment from nursing homes in New York.

Actress Viola Davis with Ethel Paley

• Simone Bernstein – St. Louis, MO; Created stlouisvolunteen.com to inform teens about the many volunteer opportunities available in the area and to motivate them to act.

• Berni Barta – Los Angeles, CA; Founded Kid Flicks, an organization that donates new and gently used age-appropriate DVDs to children in hospitals and pediatric departments.

• Pauline Olsen – Farmington, CT; Helped to create Malta House of Care Mobile Free Medical Clinic, which delivers totally free primary health care to a diverse population with no other means of accessing the health care system.

The grand prize winner was Taryn Davis, who received a check for $25,000 from L’Oreal for The American Widow Project.

As a token of appreciation for all these women, and for BeautyStat.com readers (whom we also like to fondly think of as Women of Worth themselves), we are giving away a complete set of “Youth Code” products (including Serum, Day/Night Creams and Undereye creams) to one lucky winner. Simply leave a comment below to tell us which of these causes you can most relate to.

And as always, we encourage you to give to the charity of your choice if you are able.

Cheerful givers, because being a single mother myself I know how hard it can be at times to do the things you want to for Christmas and Birthdays. The feeling inside when you can’t do for your kids is long lasting, it doesn’t just go away, the memory stays with you. I have taken my pocket money, gas money, bill money at times to buy school lunch for a kid who didn’t have the money to pay for it. When asked why I always answer that I hope someone would do the same for my own kids.

Living waters for girls, because I have a daughter of my own. I have taken my pocket money, gas money, bill money at times to buy school lunch for a kid who didn’t have the money to pay for it. When asked why I always answer that I hope someone would.

I dont know if I could relate to it really, but I find the Living Water for Girls organization close to my heart, just because I have been to countries that have water cleaning problems.
