I was sent five different face washes to sample, which was especially helpful because it allowed me to compare and contrast the different qualities of each product. On balance, I will say that I love this line and am very pleased with the performance, feel and results of their products. Below, find a more specific breakdown of individual products and what you can expect from them.

Origins A Perfect World Antioxidant Cleanser with White Tea, $24, is a foaming-face wash with antioxidant-rich White Tea said to help preserve skin’s youth. Minerals plus gentle, cleansing palm, coconut and oat amino acid “reach deep to help detoxify and free skin of harmful, free radical-releasing impurities before they cause oxidation, deterioration and dehydration.” The face wash is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.

I used this product a few times to wash my face in the shower. It’s slightly shimmery and has a creamy, lush texture. And the smell, which is both fresh and fruity, is heavenly, and turns a shower into a spa experience. Afterwards my face felt perfectly clean and fresh. There was a slight tightness too (easily remedied with a night cream) which makes me think this product is best suited for oily skin and/or summer weather, when you need a bit more from your cleanser.

Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Cleanser, $30, is a gentle foaming cleanser with Anogeissus (an African tree whose bark contains anti-bacterial properties) plus jasmine flowers and conditioning oat protein helps dissolve dirt and impurities and release dead cells. Leaves skin looking radiant, smooth and youthfully alive.

I used this as directed to wash off make-up, dirt and perspiration. The texture is so fluffy it seems whipped, and there is a slight opalescent sheen. Scent is delicious—vaguely citrus, so between that and the texture, I was almost tempted to taste it. The anti-aging formula is really rich and restorative; my face felt clean and fresh but not dry. This is going to be my go-to cleanser this winter.

The Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Cleanser, $30.00, is a non-irritating, redness-reducing facial cleanser with a gentle, milky texture featuring a unique, signature blend—hypsizygus ulmarius (a mushroom), cordyceps (an herb), and reishi mushrooms, ginger, turmeric, and holy basil—as well as skin soothing licorice extract. It gently yet effectively removes makeup, dirt, debris, and impurities without upsetting skin’s naturally protective lipid balance and keeps even highly sensitive or reactive skin calm throughout the cleansing process. Skin is left comfortably clean and calm. The formula contains no parabens, sulfates or phthalates. I found this to be a refreshing product with a creamy texture and a fresh, woodsy scent; it’s invigorating rather than sweet. After washing, my face felt clean but soft; there is a moisturizing element here that is perfect for mature skin.

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash, $22, is a cleanser that balances the need of dry and oily places on the face. Broad leaf kelp extract controls excess oil production, wheat protein protects dry prone zones, tourmaline makes water wetter to disperse dirt and sebum effectively, and bergamot, spearmint, and lavender give pleasant aroma.

I found this to be minty fresh, softening and soothing, while at the same time very effective as a cleanser. Yet there was no parched or pulled feeling at all. Another all-around winner.

This soap-free cleanser, Pure Cream Rinseable Cleanser, $22, is very gentle and can be used without water to cream away makeup, dirt and debris without parching skin. Ingredients include, glycerin, rose flower water, myrtle leaf water, coriander fruit oil, spruce leaf oil, lime, peppermint, and carrot oils, as well as mandarin orange peel oil and tangerine peel oils. I found it to be a great product but it does not work all that well with just a tissue or cotton puff; I still found residue on my skin. I preferred to lather up and use it in the shower, where the fruity scent and lush texture were delightful.
