A generous sample of La Prairie Skin Caviar Liquid Lift arrived at my doorstep a few weeks ago. This new serum calls itself the ‘ne plus ultra of skincare’, and according to its manufacturers, a single drop “helps to lift, firm and provide a long-lasting tensing effect to skin…” and claims it “contains scientific advancements that create this lifting phenomenon. Past damage recedes as existing cells are rejuvenated, and new ones are super-charged, nourished and protected.”

When the package is opened, you see the pearly, golden “caviar” beads; with the click of the activator on the bottle, the golden caviar beads (suspended in an anti-wrinkle peptide solution) merge with the epidural recovery complex that is released from an inner chamber, creating a fluid and silky serum for the face.

I used the product for over a week, morning and night. It is extremely absorbent; though not thick or creamy, it seemed to vanish into my skin, leaving it very supple and dewy. Also, I noticed that I needed less moisturizer than usual — the absorption properties seemed to extend to other products as well.

But — and this is a huge ‘but’ — the cost of 1.7 ounce bottle is $500. That’s right. Not $50. Not $100. Five. Hundred. Dollars. Now, if you are anything like me (or most of us!) five-hundred dollars is a lot of money to spend on a single facial product. Is it a good product? Yes. Did it improve the quality of my skin? You bet. But did it utterly transform my skin into that of a twenty-five year old? It did not. And while I liked the feel and though it delivered good results, so have many other products I have sampled, including several with more modest price tags — benefiting my skin in the same way, or close to it. So, unless money is no object whatsoever, I would not urge anyone to race out and buy this.
