Skincare Product Review, Ingredients, Photos, Swatches, Trend 2016, 2017: HorseOPeace Natural Goat Milk Soap, Lip Balm, Shea Butter

Founder and owner of HorseOPeace, Elizabeth Sanders began making soap from milk she coaxed from her sister’s goats. Within two months, she was selling enough soap at local farmers markets to declare her newfound hobby into a legit business. Since then she’s handmade over 55,000 bars of soap—that’s a lot of bubbles!

HorseOPeace soaps are all natural 100% goat milk, and formulated without any added water. The bars are cured for at least six weeks, to give them longer life, and are 4.5 to 5 ounces each. There are eleven scented bars: Lavender, Oatmeal ’n Lavender, Sweet Orange Basil, Wintergreen Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Jojoba, Patchouli, Patchouli 2x, Oatmeal ’n Lemongrass, Pine Tar, Poison Ivy Relief, Peppermint & Rosemary

The six unscented bars are: Coffee Scrub, Calendula, Shea Butter, Plain Ole Soap, Sweet Almond Honey, and Oatmeal ’n Honey

The HorseOPeace line also includes essential oils, lip balm and two kinds of Shea butter. I was sent a generous array of soaps, Shea butter and lip balm to sample and review.

This is an excellent line of products offered at a shockingly affordable price, with most bars costing $5.50 and a few that sell for $6.95. The soaps, which come unwrapped and without excess packaging, have subtle and intriguing scents. I loved the delicate fragrance of Lavender and the invigorating tang of Peppermint & Rosemary. They are a little slow to lather but once they do, they provide a rich, lustrous cascade of foam. They were not at all drying (a common side effect I’ve experienced with many scented soaps) and the Shea butter soap was mild enough to use on my face. There’s even a formula called Poison Ivy Relief though I am happy to say that I did not have an occasion to test its effectiveness!

There were also two types of Shea butter to sample. (I learned from the website that Shea butter comes from a nut on the African Karite tree)

The first is Unrefined Shea Butter, which I found a little less accommodating and harder to use—I had to dig it out of the container—and I preferred its more refined sister, which was emollient and soothing. The Plain Lip Balm nevertheless had a wonderful, toasted coconut scent and was very effective on mywinter-dry lips.

This is a superior line of products made by a small, eco-conscious company. And at these prices, the soaps, butters and balms can go into every Xmas stocking on your list.

HorseOPeace Soaps ($5.50-$6.95), Shea Butter ($4.50-$9.00) and Lip Balm ($8.99/three pack)
