The inspiration for DKNY’s AW16 show started with the brand itself and its under-stated cool, New Yorker glamour. The style reflected the personality and individuality of each model and brought the fun factor to fashion week, perfect for the DKNY ethos.

Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling, Eugene Souleiman: “We’ve actually created about four different styles here – we’ve got high and side ponytails, loose buns, rough waves and bound-braids. It’s a mash-up of city girl style through the ages, which is what New York is all about and I think this collection of looks really celebrates that diversity.”

Eugene’s favorite technique at DKNY was the bound-braid – a cornrow style row wrapping around the model’s head and tied with white elastic to add contrast and a design feature to the look.“This is one of my favorite looks from the show. We’re using the white elastic so that the braid really stands out in the girls’ hair and I think it makes it look really modern and current. By binding the hair rather than the usual braid, we’re creating something that looks different and unexpected, which looks really cool and that’s what DKNY is all about.”

1. Begin by sectioning off a thin row of hair from ear to ear, tying off the bottom and top of each row to keep hair out of the way.

2. Starting at each ear, Eugene created two braids by binding the hair to the scalp using white elastic in one inch sections, working back to the center of the crown.

3. To hide the join, he tied the two braids and the top section of the hair into a ponytail at the middle back of the head.

4. Next Eugene sprayed the ponytail with Wella Professionals EIMI Sugar Lift to add texture and folded it in half and secured with more white elastic in a loose folded bun.

5. The lower half of the hair (below the bound-braid) was left loose and sprayed with a conditioning spray, such as Wella Professionals LuxeOil Light Oil Shine Spray.

6. To finish the look, thewhole style was sprayed with Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Essential Finishing Spray to create flexible hold as the models walked the runway.

Rachel Zoe’s Autumn/Winter 2016 Collection is a play on masculine tailoring and feminine silhouettes with rich shades of bordeaux and gold. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu was inspired by the modern and relaxed spin on 1930’s glamour with a 90’s attitude reminiscent of supermodels that the collection embodies, which led her to create a hair look that had a cool-girl, romantic feel. “With the juxtaposition between androgyny and romance, there is a subtle and unexpected sexiness throughout,” says Rachel Zoe.

We have taken the time to assess each girl and their hair to know what style will be best to give her a personalized look. We wanted to try to find something about the girl, whether it was her hair cut or her features, that we wanted to accentuate or make a bit tougher.” – Lead Stylist for John Masters Organics, James Pecis

Christian Siriano’s F/W 2016 collection credits artist Sheila Hicks’ “Art of the Yarn” exhibit. Siriano became inspired by the different techniques of knitting and weaving in fabrications. Menswear-inspired suits and tailored evening pieces balance out the collection. It was important for Siriano to stay true to the inspiration, while remaining mindful of his loyal customer and her love of femininity. Through this collection Siriano introduces her to a hint of tailored, Bowie-inspired androgyny.

Step 1: On damp hair mist Sebastian Trilliant, then apply Sebastian Mousse Forte; blow dry clean and straight.

Step 2: Take an off-centered section starting from half inch to 1 inch past the crown of the head and tuck it away. On the left side, starting from the temple, take a diagonal section all the way from the temple to the nape of the neck and tuck away.

Step 3: Brush the remaining hair into a side part and put into a temporary ponytail while creating your 2-strand braid at the part and at the temple using Sebastian Eruptek.

Step 4: Fasten both braids at the bottom, leaving them loose.

Step 5: Remove temporary ponytail and brush hair, as if you would pony everything together (including the 2 braids). Then take 4-strand sections making a woven 4-strand braid all the way through and fasten at the bottom

Step 6: Rub Sebastian Eruptek onto the braid and open it up and achieve explosive texture and expansive volume in the look. Make the braid flat and wide to give it a woven, dry look. Finish with Sebastian Zero-Gravity and over lay Sebastian Shine Shaker for a soft shine.
