Friday marked the advent of a very special day in New York City with the CEW Beauty Awards, the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars. There were winners, losers and best of all, there was Mario Cantone, the irrepressibly witty and charming MC of the Awards Ceremony (and one of the SATC2 stars) who was presented with his own Beauty Award. The 16th Annual Beauty Awards crowned 31 different products as winners in several categories, spanning from masstige to prestige. In addition to the standard categories, the effervescent Indie Award went to Living Proof, a brand near and dear to my heart because the products have a tendency to make your hair resemble Amber Valleta’s. The celebrities who presented the awards were drool-worthy too. From Malan Breton, Idol finalist Anoop Desai, Supermodel Selita Ebanks, Estelle, Mark Indelicato to Kim Kardashian and Whitney Port, the awards ceremony did not lack star power. Indeed, when the audience applauded, stars fell out of their hands. Now, let’s talk about the beauty winners, shall we? We were not surprised at all to see stars like Vaseline Sheer Infusion with Stratys-3 win the Body Treatment Masstige category because the technology of that product is pretty revolutionary. Nor did we bat an eyelash when Lancome’s Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate won in the Anti-Aging Prestige Category because– let’s face it – if a product can capture the power of your youthful genes it deserves to have its own country named after it. We have always been crazy about Lancome’s Oscillation Powerbooster Primer and were thrilled with Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain won in the prestige lip product category. Living Proof’s success is well deserved. The Indie company really understands hair issues and attitude with its groundbreaking anti-frizz technology (the brains behind the brand is an MIT professor, Dr. Bob Langer…need we say more?). So what was one of the upsets? According to Ron Robinson, cosmetic chemist and founder of BeautyStat.com, one of the biggest upsets was that “Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash did not win because the technology was quite strong.” It lost the crown to Olay Body Wash Plus Tone Enriching Ribbons. Another upset in our eyes was that Garnier Skin Renew Awakening Face Moisturizer won in the mass category over Olay Pro-X SPF 30. Beauty Trends at CEW

Between salt, allergies, and good old-fashioned crying jags, our under-eyes can take quite a beating in one day. It doesn't really matter the cause, when I look in the mirror and see puffy eyes, I want to curl up and take a nap...

At last, a stem cell treatment that’s not wracked with controversy. The scientists at Vichy recently located the skin’s adult stem cells in the basal layer of epidermis. Translated, that means these super-powered regenerating cells still on the bottom of the top layer of our skin. Once the white coats found them, they started working on a serum to protect and replenish them. The new Vichy Aqualia Antiox line ($28-$45 at www.vichyusa.com, and drugstores) uses citrus polyphenol, a naturally occurring compound, along with vitamins C and E, to boost performance of stem cells. In non-scientific terms, it gives you back your glow. Because the serum contains 10% vitamin C and no preservatives, this refrigeration is crucial to maintaining the product’s effectiveness. I also imagine it would feel awfully good to smooth in on to sunburned skin, not that any of your plan on getting sunburned ever again. A word of caution: If you plan on extended time in the sun, put on a sun block with a little more muscle. Finally, the Anti-Fatigue Ice-Effect Eye Stick delivers these benefits to your eyes in a compact container that immediately chills a puffy eye area.
There are sunscreens, and there are sunscreens. Like comparing apples to oranges, Hondas to Ferraris or even condos to mansions, everyone wants the bigger, the better. In the case of SPF, the higher number does not necessarily mean better. In fact, there's a point at which the SPF number becomes as meaningless as a pile of empty papers on the floor. It offers the protection of a broad spectrum of PHYSICAL filters (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) instead of the typical CHEMICAL filters that sunscreens employ. There have also been some studies that link UVA and UVB rays to osteoporosis, so as the summer season rolls around, it pays to be religious to the point of fanatical about sunscreen.

Last week, Lierac celebrated the 35th anniversary of its signature product, Phytolastil. A French physician created the gel and serum duo as a gift to his wife to remedy her post-pregnancy stretch marks, and lo and behold- Lierac was born. Many of us know all too...

This winter has been the worst on record for my face. 14-20 inches of snow mixed with gusting winds that feel like they have some 200 horsepower is not something you want to subject your birthday suit to — as a result, I suspect that I may have ended up with windburn, which is a serious bitch (thanks, Mother Nature). Therefore, I’ve had to resort to sensitive skin treatments, and one of the crown jewels during my search was the Sensitive Skin Line from Votre Vu Skincare. Votre Vu Lait Skincare Sensitive Skin
