New York Fashion Week is here again and the nail trends ranged from classic nude to bold red and more. Essie captured some of our favorites from the week. Check them out below to see how you can create the looks at home.

For Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2017 show, Julie Kandalec for essie wanted to incorporate both the sweetly innocent and dark sides to the collection. To do so, she paired wicked on the fingernails – noting that it’s a deep red, yet not black, with classic sheer ador-a-ball on the toes. “they’re feminine, fluid and timeless shades, and not too sugary sweet – just like the collection.

  1. Start by applying First Base base coat to clean nails
  2. Then apply two coats of Wicked to each nail
  3. Finish with Good to Go top coat

If you struggle with getting that perfectly streak free dark manicure at home, Julie recommends letting your polish “self level” as you paint. “The most important thing is to not play too much. Lay the polish down, let the polish do the work and level out, and it will balance out.”

Rag & Bone’s show was all about a girl with just a bit of an attitude. While the collection had a fresh and real feel to it, it also had a heavy academia influence and a slight toughness – leading Julie Kanadalec  to create a custom red manicure using A-List and Really Red to perfectly match the pops of red in the collection. She interspersed a neutral nail and a black nail, opting for Sand Tropez and Licorice on eight of the girls.

Pro tip: If you want to layer nail polish shades at home, Julie suggests always starting with the darker shade and a light polish as the “toner” color. Generally speaking, the base color should have two coats of polish, and your toner color should have one coat for best results.

The Oscar de la Renta Spring 2017 collection was all about a modern mix of cool and elegance – a wealthy girl who is high quality but not uptight. Michelle Saunders for essie took that inspiration and wanted to keep the nails very short, minimal and rounded – a departure from the typical Oscar de la Renta show. She chose the classic Mademoiselle with a high shine top coat for a fresh and young take.

Jenny Peckham’s Spring 2017 collection was inspired by a 1940’s art exhibition from Peggy Guggenheim that was made up of 31 distinct looks, which each had a different muse. Michelle Saunders took this unique inspiration, and because each dress had its own individuality to it, she chose to create a nail look that a stylish woman would wear but that would flatter each and every dress. Michelle chose Tuck It In My Tux layered with Matte About You top coat for the fingernails as it mimicked the white fabric used in the collection.
