Lighten up this summer season with the NEW Essie 2013 Neon and Resort Collections ($8.00 each). Each collection adds brightly colored hues of greens, pinks and corals to your nails. First up is the Neon Collection:

“After an icy, dark winter season,  I love to shake things up with fresh, fun color,” explains Founder and Creative Director, Essie Weingarten. “For me, these fluorescent shades are just the thing to wake-up my wardrobe and make a striking look for a night on the town.”

These neons are unlike any other I’ve tried before. Essie suggests that in order to really get the most show-stopping fluorescent color payoff, first applying one coat of Blanc (a white color) before applying any of these neon shades.

Boom Boom Room and Saturday Disco Fever

“Bouncer, It’s Me”

I’ve seen Revlon Nail Art Neons do this before, and was really surprised at how bright my nails became after the first coat of white. “Bouncer, It’s Me” is a vivid blue velvet; Bottle Service is a scorching neon fuchsia; Shake Your $$ Maker is an electric green; Saturday Disco Fever, a super-hot coral; Boom Boom Room is the perfect Barbie pink and DJ Play That Song (not swatched) is a neon plum shade.

I have to go with Boom Boom Room and Saturday Disco Fever as my faves! Make sure to let each coat dry completely, as you will have a total of three coats on (with the addition of the white nail polish as the base). The formulas are almost gel-like, but I found that they dried a little on the matte side, so, if you like high-shine, definitely add a topcoat.

I’m ready to cast my sails near my imaginary beach house in East Hampton after swatching the 2013 Resort Collection.

First Timer

“I wanted to re-imagine sensual color in a way that is as unexpected as the modern woman herself,” says Essie Weingarten. “We all love to feel seductive and powerful. Get in the mood for your close-up with over-the-top color.”

Under Where?

I love how normally unconventional nail colors — like greens and purples — are becoming the new manicure shades of choice.

These colors absolutely fit the new modern woman, and with shades like First Timer (swatched), a dark mint green; Come Here! – a nearly neon coral; In the Cab-ana, an aqua blue and Under Where? (swatched), a flirtatious lilac — these colors are certainly going to be my go-to shades for summer.

I agree with you about ‘unconventional’ nail colors becoming more widely available. I’m really digging the “Under Where?” shade, though I think its a bit more lilac than it comes across in this particular pic.
