When it comes to nails at NYFW, you know BeautyStat is all over it! And so far, from what we’ve seen backstage, we can tell that the classic manicure will be taking on some subtle twists. We’ll be seeing more crepe and off-white nails (like the ‘whitened blue’ nail shade above; seen at Costello Tagliapietra using essie bikini so teeny and limo-scene) with a matte topcoat.

Murky forest greens, subdued melons and gray-tinged pastel shades also make a statement. Not to mention the technique of layering different nude and pastel nail colors for a rosy, plump appeal. Check out some of our favorite neutral nail looks so far for S/S ’15, what products to use and how to get these looks now!

At BCBGMAXAZRIA, Lead OPI Nail Artist Miss Pop painted models’ fingers and toes with one coat of OPI Base Coat followed by 2 coats of OPI‘s best-selling soft pink Bubble Bath. This sheer, neutral look complemented the collection’s bohemian silhouettes, muted pastel floral pieces and earthy tones. While at Alexander Wang, Michelle Saunders for essie created a short, rounded length nail look for both the hands and feet by layering the neutral tone of ridge filling base coat over au natural to complement the modern yet active collection.

Inspired by the fresh, romantic feel of Altuzarra’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection, Michelle Saunders for essie created a delicate, feminine nail by using spaghetti strap on both the hands and feet. The sheer pink hue, reminiscent of rosy cheeks, completed the overall look. DKNY’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection included a mixture of vibrantly colored streetwear styles with abstract patterns. To complement the urban vibe, Michelle Saunders for essie created a hip, neutral nail that resembled the tone of a muted nail bed by layering ridge filling base coat, au natural and allure. She topped off the look with a coat of matte about you, which added an edgy feel to the overall look.

Jin Soon created a literal green thumb to complement the garden-inspired Karen Walker Spring/Summer 2015 Collection, applying 2 coats of a forest green nail polish (the shade Jin used was from her upcoming JINsoon Spring 2015 Collection). Jin Soon created a subtle, white matte nail using Kookie White to complement the exploration of textures at the Tess Giberson Spring/Summer 2015 show.

Jin Soon created a polished, understated look for the Derek Lam Spring/Summer 2015 show. To create warmth, apply 1 coat of JINsoon Nostalgia. Next, layer one coat of JINsoon Muse for a warm, soft look. Carolina Herrera’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection was filled with brightly colored pieces that were structured, yet romantic. To tie the look together, Michelle Saunders for essie created a classic ‘spring red’ nail by using 2 coats of a-list.

Diane von Furstenberg drew inspiration from a traditional French picnic for her Spring/Summer 2015 line. Michelle Saunders of essie created a classic pink nail for the hands and an opaque pale pink nail for the toes, which paired perfectly with the colors and prints found throughout the collection. Yigal Azrouel’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection was heavily influenced by Hawaii’s laid back surfing culture. To complement the low-key beach vibe, Rita Remark for essie created a sheer sandy beige nail by layering mademoiselle over au natural on the hands, and applied a single coat of mademoiselle on the toes.

butter LONDON’s Lead Manicurist Katie Jane Hughes was inspired by Nicole Miller’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection of the art and culture of Brazil. The bright prints and colors evoked the vibrancy and movement of a tropical, Copacabana beach getaway. Katie used 2 coats of butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Jaffa, cut metallic gold striping tape to fit the width of the pinky nail, and applied to the middle of the pinky nail on each hand. She then topped the nail off with butter LONDON Nail 999 Basecoat to give a creamier, softer final effect.

For the Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2015 Collection, Jin Soon Choi created a sleek, high-shine nude to complement the brand’s cool, urban aesthetic. First she applied JINsoon Power Coat base coat to prep the nails, then 1 coat of JINsoon Tulle. A single coat of JINsoon Top Gloss finished off the high-shine look.

Jenny Packham took inspiration from style icon Marilyn Monroe for her Spring/Summer 2015 runway show. To complement the rainbow colored collection, Michelle Saunders for essie created a youthful red-orange nail by using two coats of geranium on both the hands and feet.

Red shiny nails matched lips at Zac Posen SS’15. MAC Cosmetics Shirelle Studio Nail Lacquer was applied in 2 coats over naturally shaped nails for a classic bright red manicure. Studio Over Lacquer was applied on top for a high-gloss shine.

To complement the Naeem Khan Spring/Summer 2015 line, Julie Kandalec for essie created a nail look to represent the ‘Naeem Khan girl’ — elegant and done up, but not too glamorous. She used fiji, a creamy pale pink shade, on both the hands and feet to perfectly match the overall vibe of the collection.

It was all about natural minimalism at the Victoria Beckham SS’15 show. Vanessa Williams for Nails inc applied 1 coat of Nails inc Elizabeth Street Polish and 1 coat of Westminster Bridge Top Coat for a matte finish.

Jin Soon created a soft, glossy nude to complement the sheer romanticism of the Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2015 collection using Tulle and a top coat for some shine.

Julie Kandalec for essie was inspired by the Hollywood glam feel and vibrant hues seen throughout Veronica Beard’s Spring/Summer 2015 Collection. To play up these aspects, she created a bright coral, standout nail for the hands, and a new take on nude for the feet that was reminiscent of the shade of stockings worn by women in the 1930s.

Stacey Bendet’s Spring/Summer 2015 presentation was heavily influenced by the beauty of Versailles, and included a whimsical mixture of daytime and evening looks. Inspired by colors seen throughout the fabrics, Rita Remark for essie created 3 different nail options to directly coincide with the collection. Shades included a custom soft lilac, a soft peach and a vibrant coral.

Miss Pop for OPI created a nail look showcasing negative space at Charlotte Ronson, with alternating cut-out half moon shapes. This never-before-seen pastel mint OPI hue is slated to launch in February 2015. For the nail look, each model sported one hand with the pinky, middle and pointer fingers featuring a painted nail with a natural half moon, and the ring and thumb fingers featuring a natural nail with a painted half moon. On the other hand, the look was reversed, with the pinky, middle and pointer fingers featuring the natural nail with a painted half moon, while the ring and thumb fingers had the painted nail with a natural half moon.

Inspired by the island vibe of Sophie Theallet’s SS’15 Collection, Julie Kandalec for essie created a negative space double French tip nail using fiji and turquoise and caicos for the hands. To bring together the overall look, she used one coat of mademoiselle on the toes.

At Tadashi Shoji, the colors of Venice inspired the palette – glowing pastels of frosted jade, pink shadow and blue stone are built up in layers. Use butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in The Full Monty applied with the Striping Brush to create a diagonal mesh-like pattern.

For Creatures of the Wind, Katie Jane Hughes, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador,
wanted to avoid the nails looking “costume-y,” so a natural base was used. The final result was something somewhat unrecognizable, but with elements of the familiar. She used butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Full Steam Ahead.

honor 40 1

Jin Soon created a graphic textured nail at the TIBI SS’15 show. TIBI emphasized artistic handicraft with a clean, modern aesthetic, exploring Japanese tie-dye and weaving techniques on a bevy of muted textiles. Inspired by a soft, woven Shibori print, Jin Soon Choi designed a textured accent nail of black leatherette stitches on a light crepe base

Miss Pop created a light, feminine look at the Houghton SS’15 show with an unexpected edge on nails and toes. Nails were painted with OPI Base Coat, 2 coats of Samoan Sand — a sheer nude color — then sealed with Matte Top Coat (a big trend for spring!) and finished with a few hand-placed Swarovski crystals.
