ULTA BEAUTY SKINSOAK FOAMING CLEANSER, $12.00

Ulta’s Skinsoak Foaming Cleanser is a foaming cleanser that claims to “soaks skin in hydration while gently removing makeup and impurities.”  Hyaluronic acid and green tea extract are said to hydrate and help protect skin from pollution and environmental stressors.  It’s also said to “brighten and refine skin tone.”

Some of the key benefits of this product are:

  • Water to foam formula won’t dry out skin
  • Free of parabens and sulfates
  • Not tested on animals

I used this product to wash off a full face of makeup, including eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, concealer and primer in addition to foundation, blush, powder and lipstick. I liked the efficient pump dispenser, which made it easy to use in the shower.  I’m glad to report that everything they claim is true: the formula, which is fluffy, light and foamy, did a terrific job of washing away the make up but without stripping or drying my skin.  I also want to mention the delightful scent—think meadow after a soft, spring rain—which bumped this up from utilitarian to spa level. And the price can’t be beat—$12 for 4 oz.  Bottom line: my new go-to cleanser.

HYDRABURST LEAVE ON MASK, $14.00

Ulta’s Hydraburst Leave On Mask claims to “instantly burst into hydration droplets when applied to the skin.”  It’s perfect for emergency moisture after sun exposure, long flights, or whenever skin needs a boost.  It can be used as a sleeping mask, on top of moisturizer, or patted into skin over makeup.  It is also paraben and sulfate free and is not tested on animals.

This is not a typical dry-on-your-skin/wash or scrub off kind of mask and it’s not meant for exfoliation or deep cleaning, so I was unfamiliar with the concept. I used it late one evening while relaxing in the front of the television, and immediately liked the lightweight formula and fresh scent.  It took a few minutes to absorb and it then left my skin feeling hydrated, moist and smooth.  I can see a real use for this in the future—on a plane, for instance, or a long road trip.  The fact that it needs no rinsing and absorbs so well make it a quick pick-me-up for your skin when you don’t have a lot of time to spend.

AQUABLAST HYDRATING BEAUTY MIST, $10.00

Ulta’s multi-functional Aquablast Revitalizing Mist is designed to “instantly refresh and revitalize the skin.”  Hyaluronic acid and aloe vera extract hydrate and cool skin while coffee extract helps re-energize.  Some of the chief benefits of this product include:

  • Tones and balances skin after cleansing
  • Preps skin before masking
  • Resets and refreshes makeup throughout the day
  • Refreshes, cools, and soothes on-the-go
  • Free of parabens and sulfates
  • Not tested on animals

I used this product post-gym to cool down and freshen up.  It was a  lovely little burst of cool moisture that left my skin fresh and hydrated. I also tried it pre-mask and post-cleansing, for equally pleasant results.  And like all the products in this line, it’s very well priced—an affordable little luxury.  I plan to keep it in my gym bag to use after spin class or Zumba.

FRESHFACE MICELLAR CLEANSING WATER, $9.00

The Ulta bi-phase Freshface Micellar Cleansing Water makes use of new ingredients to “gently and effectively remove all traces of makeup, even waterproof, without the need to rinse.”  The micelles attract dirt and makeup and lift them from the skin to reveal clean, fresh skin everyday without the drying effects of other cleansers.  Among its benefits are:

  • Removes even waterproof makeup
  • Refreshes skin
  • No need to rinse
  • Safe for use on eyes, lips, and face
  • Free of alcohol, fragrance, dyes, parabens, sulfates
  • Not tested on animals

I’ve used products that contain similar ingredients so I’m familiar with the technology.  I used this particular formula to remove eyeshadow, eye pencil, mascara, concealer, as well as foundation, blush, powder and lipstick and observed terrific results.  Even the eye makeup came off with no pulling or rubbing though even the though the product doesn’t require rinsing, I still prefer to rinse after using it.  Still, an excellent and effective product that really does what it promises.
